| Wystan10-12-06, 10:05 AM | So what is the secondary Duration for Avuncular Mass? My DM used it on us this week and then apologized profusely when it was realized that NONE of us could touch the saves needed to do anything. I had the highest escape artist skill with a 9, and the Battle Mage had the concentration of a 12 and no dispell magic, and the Dwarf Paladin had a strength of 14, SO no escape roll, no dispell, and no strength break. The DM ruled 2d6 minutes, and we were basically stuck until he allowed the battle mage to fireball us out of it at point blank rane, leaving the Paladin at 26, the Battle Mage at 26, me at 25 (scout), and the Cleric hurting as well. With a Death Knight coming out way. (We are all Level 10 so we are Way out of the level Range of that spell anyway for dispelling actions.) |

| Wystan10-12-06, 10:35 AM | Well, we were scouting a tomb of a destroyed lich for the army. The DM had basically placed this as the only place to go, and we were following the hooks that he gave us. We detected Magic on a panel. I looked for traps and did not find any. The dwarf Paladin touched it and Avuncular Mass was cast centered on him. We were all stuck there in a 15 foot radius, with 5 more feet of mass around us. The DM admitted that he read the spell, liked it and wanted to use it, but did not read it close enough to realize that there was no way we could react to it and no way we could overcome the DC's for actions. |
| smrtgmp10-12-06, 10:38 AM | ahh...it was a trap. thats completely different. hell, a wail of the banshee trap is only a CR 10. Crazy trap CRs... :nonono: |
| Wind of Darkness10-12-06, 03:58 PM | The SpC version lasts for 1 round/level, IIRC. For a trap, that's probably 15 rounds. And it hit your Paladin? Ouch. Dropping a high HD combat type to half HP hurts. Like ouch. At least Paladins can heal themselves a bit (and others, but honestly, Lay on Hands is generally for use on oneself and no, that's not what I meant and you know it). |
| Wystan10-12-06, 04:06 PM | 15 rounds is MUCH better than the 2d6 minutes we ate. We all ate like 37 Damage as the GM house ruled that the fireball would free us. OUCH |
