Im Complete Arcane, the Entropic Warding Invocation gives no duration. Pass without trace lasts for one hour/level, Entropic shield lasts for one round/level and about every other 'buff' invocation the warlock has lasts for a straight 24 hour duration. My DM ruled that it lasts for a half-hour per level... but then My DM isn't the best when it comes to arbitrating house rules (I also have an invocation limit per day... but I already complained about that in another post.) I know what my DM says goes, but I just wondered what the rules/smart people on the internet have to say on the issue.

Furthermore, I know in the Invocation entry of the Warlock class, it states 'unlike other spell-like abilities, invocations are subject to arcane spell failure chance as described under weapon and armor proficiency above'. Spell failure chance only applies to arcane spells with somatic components (or, in this case, spell like abilities with somatic components). Firstly, do blast shape and essence invocations have somatic components? It doesn't say. Secondly, even though eldrich blast isn't an invocation and therefore not subject to the 'spell failure chance' rule, I would still like to know if it has verbal or somatic components for other reasons, such as identification via the spellcraft skill, or casting in a grapple.

My DM ruled that the separate components of Entropic Warding have the durations of the spells they mimic.

From the Complete Arcane errata:
Page 8: Invocations and Eldritch Blast
Change this section as follows:
Invocations and Eldritch Blast: Eldritch blast is an invocation. Other invocations provide a warlock with the ability to modify his eldritch blast or add new eldritch attacks.

By this, Eldritch Blast requires a somatic component whether you add an essence or blast shape or not.

Our DM has pretty much hand-waved it ...

I mean really ...

Me (Warlock): move with party 30' down corridor - activate Entroping Warding.

Next round: Move with party 30' down corridor - activate Entroping warding ..

“...a warlock can use any of his invocations while wearing light armor without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance.” —CA p7

I can't find where it states that innvocations are 24 hour duration unless noted in the innvocation description. (I'm still looking...)

Spell failure chance only applies to arcane spells with somatic components (or, in this case, spell like abilities with somatic components). Firstly, do blast shape and essence invocations have somatic components? It doesn't say. Secondly, even though eldrich blast isn't an invocation and therefore not subject to the 'spell failure chance' rule,Slow down sparky. Unfortunately the errata fixed all that. Eldritch Blast IS an invocation. It IS subject to arcane spell failure. Therefore so are the shapes and essences that rely upon it.I would still like to know if it has verbal or somatic components for other reasons, such as identification via the spellcraft skill, or casting in a grapple. It has somatic components just like all of the other invocations. None of the invocations have verbal components, technically. Of course Baleful Utterance's flavor text would hint otherwise, but it's not been addressed officially. BTW you cannot use any invocations in a grapple unless you take the feat Still Spell-like Ability. I recommend picking Flee the Scene, but a few others could work.

Quite Possibly all three, Seeker of Undeath. Thats why I recently came to my damn senses and left the group. I liked the other players, but the incompetant DM was just too much.
Anyway, thanks for the Errata clear up, guys. I must have missed that. I do know that spell failure chance applies to medium or heavier armor, but I can't find where it says that all the invocations have somatic components. I guess you could deduce it by the fact that it mentions the spell failure chance at all, but still... I've just been looking up whether or not the spell-equivelants had somatic components. dimensional door does not, thankfully.

Since most Spell-like abilities don't require a somatic component, I don't think you'll find this feat anywhere. However, it only makes sense to have it available to the players. As you where.

It's in the 2nd paragraph of the Weapon and armor proficiencies in the class features.
