Mechanically, can a druid do this using this spell? How inclined are his awakened animals to live out their lives with the druid who woke them? How about the leadership feat, would this be needed for my goal? |

Friendly means, according to SRD, that the animal could "chat, advise, offer limited help, advocate" with you. I'd rule abandoning ones home for you is outside the boundaries of Friendly, but if you could use Diplomacy to get them Helpful, it might be possible. The 250 XP cost * would hurt quite a bit if you awoke enough animals for a whole village, though. With Leadership, you can get a limited number of really low-level followers. Just have them to be NPC classes, and you've got a small village, but this strategy would require very high Leadership score since most druids use CHA as a dump stat. |
