| lord zog10-05-04, 04:27 AM | When you cast Awaken on an animal and its type changes to Magical Beast, does that increase to d10 HD apply only to the two extra HD granted by the spell or is it applied retroactively to the prior d8 HD? Presumably these Magical Beasts, because of their now vastly improved Intelligence score, are capable of taking class levels (as the Great Druid from Eberron is an awakened tree, this would seem to be the case)? |
| ThoughtfulOwl10-05-04, 04:38 AM | Unless specified (and here it isn't), you don't change HD when changing type. The awakened animal still uses d8s both for his original hit dice and the two gained from the spell. Yes, they can take class levels. ;) |
| lord zog10-05-04, 05:49 AM | So what's the point of altering the awakened animal's type if it doesn't affect it? |
| smrtgmp10-05-04, 05:51 AM | It's because its intelligence raises above 2, and all animals have an itelligence of 1 or 2. Its more an issue of semantics than anything else, at least as far as I can tell. |
| ThoughtfulOwl10-05-04, 06:01 AM | It also prevents effects that specifically affect animals from affecting an awakened one. |
