| Saibashi06-21-06, 09:09 AM | I am playing a level 12 druid who needs to fortify an area, and am looking at the awaken spell to do this. I would like to use trees instead of having to hunt down animals, but I have not been able to find a definitive and logical answer as to what the stats of awoken tree would actually look like. There are several unanswered questions: A. If it has a “plant” type, does it have d8 hit dice or d10? B. If it is a plant, does it have the construct “bonus hit points”? C. Is it alive? Is it due Con? How much, 3d8 or 20 as a treant? D. Does it have DR/5 – like a construct (hardness), or DR/5 slashing like a treant? E. Does it have trample like a Treant? Animated objects need hardness of 10 to get trample. F. Does it get the animated objects “constrict” skill? Treants do not have this. G. Does it have legs? What is it's speed? Thanks for your input! |

An awakened plant gains the ability to move its limbs, roots, vines, creepers, and so forth, and it has senses similar to a human’s. Check the Monster Manual or the SRD for an animated objects stats. Edit: Probably Huge Animated Object for most trees. |
| Saibashi06-21-06, 10:13 AM | From the SRD: An awakened tree has characteristics as if it were an animated object, except that it gains the plant type... Plant type has d8 hit dice, and Animated objects (constructs) have d10 hit dice. The entry does not mention giving this tree Constitution, nor if it has construct bonus hp to make up for this. |

It is alive and has a con. Con should vary with size, a Huge one should have a Con of 21 (treant). Thus we know: Fine/Dimunitive/Tiny/Small 11, Medium 13, Large 17, Huge 21, Gargantaun = 25, Collosal = 29, D. It should get DR/10 slashing. E. It should get Trample if it is Large or greater. F. It does not get Constrict unless it is a vine. G. It has roots not legs, speed is as a construct that has no legs or wheels |

I agree, they should have Con (and no bonus hp). I think that the Liveoak spell is a much better model than Animate Objects; which leaves me just really looking at the animated objects as a template for Str, Dex, and speed. |

However, there's no way in the RAW to tell which skills are class skills for an awakened tree. Additionally, how do you CR an awakened tree? The appropriately-sized animated object has a CR, but the tree loses some of the advantages of the construct type; on the other hand, it also gains skills and feats. Awaken is long overdue for some official attention. Also, it's definitely an "awakened" tree, not an "awoken" tree. :D |
