What actually happens when you turn a Bag of Holding inside-out?

Salute to you if you find a good answer.

Same thing that happens if you cut it.

Pardon me, I was wrong. According to the DMG, p. 248:

If the bag is overloaded, or if sharp objects pierce it (from inside or outside), the bag ruptures and is ruined. All contents are lost forever. If a bag of holding is turned inside out, its contents spill out, unharmed, but the bag must be put right before it can be used again.

Thanks for the answer, but I hoped it was more like:

"If the Bag of Holding is turned inside-out, a fat, evil sorceress-bard-Warlock (Half-orc), female jumps out of the bag, round-house-kicking everyone in a 30-feet radius."

Well, you COULD always houserule it that it opens a sucking maw in the fabric of space and time, pulling all in its area into its grasp. When you fall through, you arrive in Limbo, but not just any part of Limbo: Heward's castle. Driven mad by his desires to hold more things, he adds those foolish enough to turn a bag inside out to his Collection.

It's guarded by a fat, evil half-orc sorceress-bard-Warlock that sings the most horrific music you've ever heard. Your adventurers don't know it, but you do: it's 1960s pop.

What if you turn it inside-out inside a Antimagic Field?

Reminds me of a joke: a mathematician, an engineer, and a physicist are asked to contain a flock of sheep within a fence (using minimal amount).

The engineer takes an amount of fence, forms it into a circle to optimize volume, and builds it about the sheep.
The physicist herds the sheep into as small an area possible and builds a fence around them, barely giving them room to breathe.
The mathematician builds the fence in a circle about himself and claims "I define myself to be outside of the fence".

A friend of mine once claimed that if you turned a bag of holding in-side out, it would technically contain everything in the universe. If you then wrapped it about yourself, you would not be part of the universe and could walk, unimpeded, through it. Of course the contrary point would be "how would you walk?"

In our campaign, things fall out of it when you turn it inside out. This is also how you clean it from the dead parts of monster you put in it.

A funny thing happend to an adventuring party with a Bag of Holding I. They encounterd some demons that they were not outfitted to fight that had been summoned. The Party retreated into an anti-magic field cast from a scroll. And tried to come up with a plan of attack. They confired amongnst themselves and came up with an audicious plan. One party member had a Bag of Holding I and another party member had a Amulet of the Plains. They activated the Amulet of the Plains, and put it inside the Bag of Holding I and threw it outside the anti-magic field. were the demons were waiting for time to pass and the anti-magic field to disipate. When the bag landed between the two demons and the Bag of Holding was destroyed they got sucked into the Vortex and Plain shifted to a Plain run by Devils. Who were not to happy to see two Demons in their territory. The Two Demons were quickly killed and ended up Back at home in front of their Boss going "what the Hell just happend and how did we get back here."

Why can't people read?
Bag of Holding

This appears to be a common cloth sack about 2 feet by 4 feet in size. The bag of holding opens into a nondimensional space: Its inside is larger than its outside dimensions. Regardless of what is put into the bag, it weighs a fixed amount. This weight, and the limits in weight and volume of the bag’s contents, depend on the bag’s type, as shown on the table below. If the bag is overloaded, or if sharp objects pierce it (from inside or outside), the bag ruptures and is ruined. All contents are lost forever. If a bag of holding is turned inside out, its contents spill out, unharmed, but the bag must be put right before it can be used again. If living creatures are placed within the bag, they can survive for up to 10 minutes, after which time they suffocate. Retrieving a specific item from a bag of holding is a move action—unless the bag contains more than an ordinary backpack would hold, in which case retrieving a specific item is a full-round action.

If a bag of holding is placed within a portable hole a rift to the Astral Plane is torn in the space: Bag and hole alike are sucked into the void and forever lost. If a portable hole is placed within a bag of holding, it opens a gate to the Astral Plane: The hole, the bag, and any creatures within a 10-foot radius are drawn there, destroying the portable hole and bag of holding in the process.

if i remember correctly, on an episode of the dungeons & dragons podcast it was stated that if you were to turn a bag of holding inside-out a small creature would fall out. he was the librarian of the bag.

What if you turn it inside-out inside a Antimagic Field? From the 3.5 FAQ:
"Most magic storage items use extradimensional space (such
as a bag of holding). When the magic on such an item is
dispelled or suppressed, access to the item’s interior is closed
off, and you cannot deposit or retrieve anything in the magic
storage item until the suppression ends."

Most people would say it turns into a normal bag. Some speculate that this could make a good place to hide an item (i.e. suppress the bag, put an object in it, then unsuppress the bag).

But the FAQ clearly states that nothing can be put in the bag. Its interior ceases to exist (imagine a zipped baggy or perhaps opening the mouth and having the bottom pushed right up against it).

It does not say nothing can be put into the bag, it says nothing can be put into the magical storage.

It does not discuss the non-magical storage.

I think the idea is valid.

Note, doing it WOULD increase the weight of the bag, and should also make the bag lumpy.

Wierd bag of holding you got there, is has an impression of a key on the side.

I don't agree with the idea. Have fun with it.

But access to the item’s interior is closed
off seems very clear to me. It does not claim access to the magic storage is closed off, access to the item's interior.

However, he is not trying to be precise here. By precedent, a magical bag would be come a mundane bag in an AMF... not some non-euclidian oddity that looks like a bag but has no opening (as that would still require magic).

"If the Bag of Holding is turned inside-out, a fat, evil sorceress-bard-Warlock (Half-orc), female jumps out of the bag, round-house-kicking everyone in a 30-feet radius."
It would if that is what you put in it.
