Everyone knows you don't place a bag of holding in a Portable Hole vais versa, but what happens if you place Bag of Holding in a Bag of Holding? What about Portable Hole in a Protable Hole?
Not the most earth shattering of questions but, still a question.

Your thoughts please?

I thought that bad things happen whenever you place an extra-dimensional space into another extra-dimensional space, even if it's just a Glove of Storing and a Rope Trick spell. I figure standard result is that everything within a certain radius is sucked into the Astral plane.

According to FAQ, neither Bag of Holding nor Portable Hole goes off in the extradimensional space of its own - like Ex-space created by Rope Trick.

that is true in the errata of 3.0, however they didn't put it in the eraata of 3.5 so don't take the bag of holding into a rope trick. Oh and a glove of storing doesn't out it in an extradiminsal space so that is safe.

Generally speaking, if there is no 3.5 FAQ comment about the subject which is stated in 3.0 FAQ, then 3.0 FAQ holds true.
If not, almost everything in 3.0 FAQ gets nullified.

Though it'd be more acceptable, if everything in 3.0 FAQ were molded into 3.5 FAQ.

The catastrophic events of putting one extra dimensional space into another depends on which space is larger than the other. A portable hole is larger than a bag of holding, so when it is put into the bag, the results are worse than putting the bag into the hole. If one were to put a larger bag of holding into a smaller one the results would be similar to the hole into the bag (ie. Astaral rift, pull all within 10' to another plane, and destruction of the two items) instead of just the destruction of the items.

Hope this helps.

Thank you very much. While the situation has not come up in game , I was just curious as to what would happen.

Best rule of thumb is, "If the book doesn't say it happens, then it doesn't happen." Only place the extra-extradimensional space is ever mentioned, to my knowledge, is the interaction between a Bag of Holding and a Portable Hole. Nowhere else does it say there is a problem. Idea that putting any ED space in any other ED space causing disasterous results is actually a bit of an urban legend, the books don't really support it.

Common houserule though, if the DM realizes its a houserule or not.
