| EvilVegan04-22-04, 08:38 AM | A few questions about extradimensional spaces. 1) What happens when you take/open a bag of holding underwater? Does it fill to capacity with water? Does it burst? 2) What happens if you put a bag of holding in a bag of holding, or a portable hole in a portable hole, or a B.O.H. in a Handy Haversack, or a quiver of Ehlonna in a bag of holding, or any of the above in a rope trick? 3) Is the Cubic footage of B.o.H. or Handy Haversack a fixed dimension, or does it mold to objects being put inside? Like the side pouch of the haversack is 2 cu. ft., does that mean its 1x1x2 always, or could it be like 4 x 3/4 x 2/3, in otherwords could I put a scabbard in there, or a quiver of Ehlonna?? 4) Are the items in the extradimensional space jostled when the container is jostled? Like if I had a sword in a scabbard in a bag of holding and got tossed down a hillside, would there be a chance of the sword coming out and piercing/ruining my bag, or if I had an alchemy lab in my portable hole, would it spill all over the place? |
| Heron_Marked_Blade04-22-04, 08:57 AM | 1) The same thing that normally happens to a bag opened underwater; it starts filling with water until you close it again. 2) Rules As Written (RAW) indicate that only a bag of holding and a portable hole create the rift. The others are left up to your DM. 3) DM's call. I usually go with the standard shape, and for simplicity's sake I think most DMs do as well. Scabbards and long items can fit in the central space. 4) No, since they're in an extradimensional space, unless your bag is open at the time. The effect of gravity on the material plane has no effect on items in an extradimensional space, unless the space is opened. I.e. If you open your bag and turn it upside down, gravity works on the items and they fall out. Otherwise, they're fine. |
| Perpetual Wizard04-22-04, 09:50 AM | Our DM has ruled that any extra dimensional space (EDS) cannot be placed inside another, but it depends on the size of the EDS that determines the outcome. If a smaller BoH is placed inside a larger one they are both sucked into the void and destroyed. If a larger is placed in a smaller, you get the effects of a portable hole into a bag of holding. Magic is dangerous, so you must use it with caution. The rope trick spell however creates temporary nondimensional space which is different than extradiension space. So you would be able to take BoHs and PHs into it. Those are our rules anyway. Of course your DM has final say. |
