| Lady Maedhros04-18-06, 11:14 PM | Baleful Blooming Conjuration (Creation) Level: Drd 6 Components: V, DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Close (25 ft + 5 ft / 2 lvls) Target: One creature or object Duration: 1 round / level Saving Throw: Fortitude partial; see text Spell Resistance: Yes The target of a baleful blooming spell becomes the fertile soil from which a veritable garden of vegetation springs. Flowers, grass, small vines and weeds spring from the flesh of the afflicted creature, dealing 4d6 damage in the first round. On a failed save, in subsequent rounds, the plants take firm root and begin to grow, dealing an additional 1d6 damage each round until the effect ends, when they wither and drop away. The plant growth inhibits movement, imposing a –2 penalty to Dexterity, and puts off such a powerful rich, fertile aroma that an affected creature’s scent ability is completely neutralized. If the victim of baleful blooming is subject to a remove disease, horrid wilting, heal or antiplant shell, the plants wither and the effect ends. It can also be countered by a diminish plants spell. Corporeal undead subject to this spell are especially vulnerable, as they’re practically walking fertilizer. Baleful blooming lasts 2 rounds per level and deals 2d4 damage per round when cast on corporeal undead. Inspired by driving around today and noticing all the daffodils and lupins making themselves known. I don't think i want to know what it says about me that i look at spring flowers in all their glory and imagine how cool it would be if they exploded in gory violence out of someone's body. :shifty: Second draft. Better name this time. :D |

I don't think i want to know what it says about me that i look at spring flowers in all their glory and imagine how cool it would be if they exploded in gory violence out of someone's body. :shifty: That, my friend, is indeed something to really worry about :D I like the spell for its inventiveness, but I'm not really sure how this would be considered alignmentwise... Springing nice flowery things from a dead body is the circle of nature, but make them crop from a living body? Brrrr... As for lvl, right of the top of my head I'd say about lvl6, maybe 7. Oh yeah, to decomplexify (is that a word?) matters, I think you should drop the scent and AC things. The rest is diverse and cool enough to make the spell fully visualisable (another word I'm not sure of... should have payed more attention in englisch classes...) |
| Lady Maedhros04-19-06, 06:25 PM | Okay. I axed the armor bonus, made the Dex penalty a constant, and simplified the scent thing to just affect the victim. It's now tenatively level 6. Springing nice flowery things from a dead body is the circle of nature, but make them crop from a living body? Nah, it's not evil! It's just accelerating the natural cycle of life. :D |
| Pliskit04-20-06, 05:58 AM | I think it´s going to work perfectly the way you´ve put it down now... Did you have that zombie/walking fertilizer part in there the previous time? I didn´t even notice and it´s brilliant! A real shame my druid-char has recently turned into fertilizer himself or I would certainly have used this spell. Somewhere... in the back of my brain... I keep having an image of a clown conjuring a bunch of flowers from his happily colored vest, then looking down in horror, blood dripping from his red painted lips, as he realizes the flowers are springing from his ripped up chest itself... :D |
