| PeEll03-02-08, 02:23 PM | spells and strategies to combat the magic of a bow plus 2 of drow bane. Also how do the bonuses stack on a magical bow, plus 2, with magical arrows plus 3, and strength bonus of 3. |
| Seeker9503-02-08, 03:47 PM | 1. The same way you counter every other arrow effect: Don't get hit. 2. Add the strength bonus (assuming the bow is of the type that includes strength) to the higher of the bow or arrow magic. Bows and arrows +'s do not stack. |
| Kouk03-02-08, 05:06 PM | Hehe, Seeker is right. Both the bow and the arrows have enhancement bonuses, which do not stack. You would use the higher value. If you are using Arrows +3 with Drow Bane on top, then you use the +3 bonus on most creatures, but against Drow the arrow would have a +5 enhancement bonus because of the Bane property. The bow's +2 enhancement bonus doesn't do anything for that arrow. Your Strength bonus applies as normal, but if the arrow has a higher enhancement bonus than the bow, you ignore the bow's enhancement bonus. Note however, that it is only the enhancement bonuses which don't stack. If you had a +2 Shocking Longbow, all arrows you fire from it would gain the +1d6 electricity damage in addition to whatever else they do. (Though it is a bit fuzzy whether you could stack that with arrows with the Shock property by themselves, or Shocking Burst). In general, it is better to enchant your bow with the higher +enhancement bonuses, and if you use magical arrows just leave them as +1 and add any other effect you want to add. Magic ammo is more expensive in the long run. |

The bane description says that ranged weapons "bestow the bane quality upon their ammunition" and "Against its designated foe, its effective enhancement bonus is +2 better than its normal enhancement bonus". This means that a +2 bane bow firing a +3 arrow would result in a +3 bane arrow... which can be interpreted as +5 vs. a bane designated foe (this is the interpretation I personally would use). |
| Seeker9503-04-08, 01:52 PM | As would I. I would find it odd that one would consider such a rule to be subject to interpretation. |
| mvincent03-04-08, 03:02 PM | As would I.Ok, cool. I initially wasn't sure if your stacking comment was leaning that way. I would find it odd that one would consider such a rule to be subject to interpretation.Ah... my bad... the actual debate (here (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?p=3162768)) was whether say, a +2 bane arrow fired from a +3 bow would become +5 vs. a designated foe. |
