I've seen wounding complained about as being too powerful, and I've seen the burst weapons complained about as being too weak, but I haven't seen anyone bring up bane.

Holy and the other alignment enhancements deal +2d6 damage to one alignment for a +2 cost, while bane deals +2d6+2 damage and +2 to hit to one creature type for a +1 cost. That just doesn't sit well with me.

I'd like other's ideas on this. Why is bane so cheep compared to holy, when bane gets more return against it's focus than holy does against it's? So you trade off +1 to hit and +1 to damage all the time for +2 to hit and +2d6+2 damage to a single creature type?

Maybe it was to allow rangers to have a bane weapon against all five of their favored enemies. Hey, now that's a nice prefabed weapon, one that gives you bane against all your favored enemies ... haha.

Perhaps because Holy/Unholy/Axiomatic/Anarchic weapons affect generally far broader range of targets ?

And don't forget those weapons are aligned (which matters when bypassing DR), while Bane are not.

While it's somewhat difficult for a DM to throw endless amounts of non-evil creatures at the party, it's really simple to avoid throwing 'orcs' or 'elves' against them. Bane weapons are highly specialized, and often pay the price for it when DM's want to limit a character's combat power by selectively sending non-affected enemies against him.

Oh, and I had an 'enemybane' weapon on my first 3rd Ed character. Basically, it was a 'bane' weapon against all of a ranger's favored enemies. I loved that weapon.

Well, here's one of my issues with Bane. Me. Yup, as a DM, it's hard for me not to just slap bane on an NPC, especially one who's been after the players for such a long time. You know, I'm doing it dang it.

Hahaha.

I hope that the enemey bane weapon costs more than +1. Otherwise that version sounds abusive to me.

Also note, bane is not that usefull, except in rare circumstances.

Look at this high level archer set up for example:

LG archer.

50 arrows are:

15 +1 Holy
15 +1 Axiomatic
10 +1 Brilliant
5 +1 Construct Bane
5 +1 Undead Bane

First question = would you change those arrow #s dramatically?)

The only real reason for the Construct and undead bane are to deal with the creatures that are immune to the Brilliant.

But it prety much demonstrates how much more valuable Holy and Axiomatic are as compared to Bane weapons.

I think when he said enemy bane he was refering to that he kept up on the banes for his main weapon. At least that's what I'd assume.

Tarken, I see what you mean. There are many types of bane while only 4 alignment weapons. But, a bane weapon can usually be procured to help you on a particular mission; if you're going into the underdark or the giant infested mountains or the Abyss, you know what you need to pick up.
