Just got back into D&D - haven't played since an A was added to it's name, so please bear with me, I'm a bit rusty.

I've searched the forums and haven't found anything close to this.

I play a bard who has just taken the craft wondrous item feat
I would like to creat a simple reed flute - my prefered instrument
with eagle's splendor (+4 charisma)

which I then could play any of my spells at a slightly higher DC (+2)

Does anyone see a problem with this?

A second question - do all magical items created by a bard have to be performance based (ie an instrument)?

As far as I know, such an item would be OK. It would cost:

2 (spell level) * 4 (lowest caster level of a bard to cast 2d lvl spells) * 2000 * 2 (duration) = 32000 GP

This instrument would cast eagles splendor on you everytime you use it. For an x times per day instrument it would be cheaper.

See HERE (http://www.wizards.com/d20/files/v35/MagicItemsI.rtf) for the rules.

Crafting this instrument would cost 16.000 GP and 1280 XP

I hope I got this right...comments anyone?

Thanks for verifying my thought.
Any comments on Bards only being able to create "musical or performance" based items

Any comments on Bards only being able to create "musical or performance" based itemsI wouldn't object to it, as long as it contained some type of offsetting benefit -- like a modest price reduction in "cost to create". Preventing a bard from making a non-musical item is just to harsh without offsetting compensation.

A bard can make any item for which he meets the pre-reqs, or that he can find a friend to help him meet the pre-reqs. It need not be an instrument.
