I was thinking of making a new magic item. It would work exactly like a scroll except it would have bardic music abilities. I'm not sure how I wanted some help pricing them. I was thinking instead of Spellcraft you could make a perform check though.

Pricing them?
How 'bout starting with designing them.

Is it a scroll? (Scrolls only work with spells)
Is it a wondrous item?
Can it be used by non-bards?

No.

I was thinking of it as a new type of magic item. It would be similar to a scroll but since they are only for spells it makes my idea different. Unless someone thinks it should be a wonderous item.

Can it be used by non-bards?
No, unless they make a succesful Use Magic Device and the Perform check to decipher it.

O and I would prefer you don't just flame this idea because it is something different like I have seen so many times on the board. Please make a better point that you can't make this because the DMG says scroll can cast spells not bardic music

You asking of a perform check.. would you need to keep some kind of music going along like normal bardic music or is the iten supposed to play by itself after activation? If the last, the price should be multiplied by the number of rounds it lasts or something like that..

I would make it a wondrous iten, compare the BM with spells to get a īspell levelī.. yet itīd male price calculations more along the lines of scrools and potions, something not too xpensive..

I see nothing intrinsically wrong with a "partition", being a scroll-like item that lets you "cast" a bardsong, instead of a spell.

O and I would prefer you don't just flame this ideaI would prefer you not jump into defensive mode just because you were asked questions to define your request more fully. Giving us a better idea of your request makes it easier to answer it.

sabrewolf provided the best first step... most bardic music duplicates existing spells. For those, price the "sheet music" or whatever you want to call it the same as a scroll of that spell. Just keep caster level in mind if going this route.

For an item that increases the frequency with which a bard can use any given bardic ability in a day, consider pricing on the basis of the pearls of power. Because bardic music is not level-dependent in access, but rather in duration, you could make the pearl prices reflect the number of extra uses each day such an item permits.

Well I wanted it to be cheaper so that it would suit a low level bard just fine. Similar to how a first level cleric can afford a scroll of CLW. And by higher levels you won't need these because you have so many bardic music uses already. I think I prefer saberwolf's idea. Thanks for the idea's.

Just clarifying my post here:

I like sabrewolf's idea too, for one-shot "scroll-like" items.
The "pearls of power" suggestion was only if these would be multi-use items.
