| Chosen of Bane01-29-05, 10:48 PM | So, I'm making a new character (he's actually a cohort for one of my existing PC's) and I can't decide what school I want prohibited. He is going to be a Dwarven Illusionist. I don't want him to be like most wizards (at least that I've played with) so I decided to have Evocation as one of his prohibited schools. Now, I'm stuck deciding what other school to prohibit, any suggestions? |
| superpriest01-29-05, 11:06 PM | Necromancy is probably the easiest one to drop. |
| HomebrewedMonster01-30-05, 03:33 AM | conjuration and evocation, because he will/has access to shadow conjuration and evocation. Then he can at least mimic the schools he has barred. |

| Nom01-30-05, 05:06 AM | Somewhat bizarrely, you can make quite a workable Illusionist by choosing Divination as your specialist and dropping Necromancy (always an easy one to discard). Illusionists benefit from divination in that it makes it easier to practice their skills at a distance, and the +2 Spellcraft to learn spells really doesn't make that much difference. I have an NPC villain who is a gnomish Brd1/Wiz (div) 9 with lots of illusions, and he's a very difficult opponent to pin down. The PCs had an entire adventure against him and they never even saw him ... in person, that is. He was not beyond sending a major image to gloat and taunt them. |

If I drop Evocation and Conjuration I won't really be fixing the problem. If I drop Evocation I can at least not have the mold of the last 20 wizards in my D&D group and I can still use the Orb spells from complete arcane to do damage (conjuration). I decided to drop necromancy because his "leader" will be a Paladin and I know a lot of Necromancy spells have the evil descriptor so I want to get full effect from his spells. The Wizard will start at 7th level because he will be a cohort for a 9th level character so the lack of magic missle won't be too terrible. |
