Hi, could anyone explain HD when it comes to spells? (some spells affect only a certain amount of HD of creatures, and im having trouble knowing how to count it) How do i know what HD a certain creature has? If it were based on the monster manual, for example, an ape has Hit Dice: 4d8+11 (29 hp) how many HD would it have?

Also, with regards to the duration of spells, are the minutes in our real world? or are the mins counted as in game minutes? also, if it were in game minutes, how many rounds would it be equivalent to during battles? i.e. how long would a 10min spell last in a battle.

ok so for the first question the ape would have 4HD its howver many D8's or DICE the creature has so if it is a creature with 24D10's it is a 24HD creature.. its just on how many they roll for hp so lets say
a howler MMpg154 larg outsider hitdice 6D8(23) whats in the () is its average hp and the 6D8 are how many HD it has so it has 6hit die of 8 sided dice

and for the second question from what i understand COMBAT takes 6 seconds a round (in game) when not in combat rounds are 1min and when travaling 1hour..so ten min in combat well its 6seconds a round so 10rounds is 1 min thenim guessing around 100 rounds? something like that..im not tottally sure tho..about the out of combat rounds they can be 6 seconds too i dont know where to look for those thats just how we play it..but i know in combat one round is 6 seconds...

It has 4 HD. Just count the number of dice in the hit dice listing.

thanks for the explanation on the HD! hehe.. had been confused with that for quite some time, but it was only now that i had the time to post.

about the time, nice system.. hehe.. i think il have to ask our DM regrading that. so does that mean there isnt really a rule for that in the PHB or DM book?

A round is always six seconds, whether outside of combat or inside it.

Each round represents 6 seconds in the game world. A round presents an opportunity for each character involved in a combat situation to take an action.

akinckillerchris is probably confusing "round" with "entry on the overland movement table." It's not like your rounds/level spells suddenly last longer now that you're not fighting.

ok. so if the spell lasts 10 mins, it would really be 10mins x 60 sec per min / 6 sec per round which is 100 rounds?

Or you do the conversion another way: 1 minute = 10 rounds -> 10 minutes = 100 rounds. No reason to jump to seconds if the decimal conversion is already present (which is why, I suspect, they went with 6 seconds to begin with).
