I have a simple question about the inflict wounds spells. If several PC's are in a narrow hallway and one of them casts inflict light wounds with the intention of damaging a monster in front of the group, will the spell also harm the other members of his party? The spell entry in the PHB says "Negative energy spreads out in all directions from a point of origin" which makes me think that the other PC's would get hit by it, assuming the point of origin is the caster. (But perhaps the caster can determine this point of origin?) The entry also says that the damage is done "to nearby living enemies" which makes me think that one's allies would not be hurt. So how is this usually played out?

Thanks.

You are talking about the inflict wounds MASS spell. In this case, you can selct the targets, you want to damage. The Target-descripor is similar to the "Magic Missile spell"

The only question is: Do you have to know, who and where your enemies are? What if an enemie is in the spells Area, but you don't know that he is there (because he is invisible)?
