I'm still trying to come up with good in-battle uses of suggestion. It's great for getting the enemy to go somewhere else, but not so useful when the idea is to clobber the enemy right here and now. All I've come up with are the old classics "your allies are doppelgangers/plotting to turn on you, kill them first" and "[party tank/summoned creature/illusion] can get rid of you easily, kill it before doing anything else". Any more good ideas?

I play under several DMs (we have a lot of players who are learning to DM and a regular DM who can't make it every week), but none seem inclined towards bonuses/penalties. They tend to totally disallow suggestions they think are beyond plausibility or would get us in a buttload of trouble (though obviously I didn't know that at the time).

Umm, hows about 'surrender'?

That is so completely obvious I don't think my DM would let me pull it. On the other hand, shows that I'm an idiot too.

I think a good use for a battlefeild suggestion might be something reasonable the attacker might do, but has an even choice of picks. This way you can 'push' them in the direction you want them to go.

A good example might be 'Take out the guy in the green robe before he gets of a killer spell' That way they go after that target, that might not be the best target at the time.

Or 'Take out the guy in chain mail, he has a powerful magic weapon' ...it does not matter if it's true or not, it's just a suggestion. And again may put them in a bad spot.

If you use the envorment in combat(things like knocking bad guys off cliffs), you can 'suggest' tips to help. Like 'keep your back to the cliff so you can't be flanked' or 'keep one hand on the rope so you can't be knocked off'.
