Hey there,

This is something that has piqued my curiousity. I had one of the guys I play D&D3.5 with suggest that effectively you can act indefinitely after passing the standard dying status using these 2 spells. Basically, I was wondering what people's viewpoint was. Beastland ferocity can be found in the Planar handbook, and basically states that you can act while dying, and that if you are reduced to -10 hit points, you die normally. Now, my impression of this was that even if using Delay Death (Miniatures Handbook), you would still resume the dying state and thereby not be able to act.

That's basically my interpretation of what is an age old Character Optimisation trick (The Twice-Betrayer of Shar (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=478716)). As I recall, Beastland Ferocity specifically requires that you die once you reach -10 hit points. While Delay Death allows you to live beyond this, it is clear from the rules that Beastland Ferocity only applies until you hit -10 hit points, at which point the spell's effect is no longer intended to exist. The fact that Delay Death allows you to continue beyond -10 hit points is irrelevant – Beastland Ferocity keeps you fighting to -10 hit points.

Of course, I think that in the Spell Compendium Beastland Ferocity was rewritten to make this absolutely certain.

It was. It now specifically says "between -1 and -9 hit points".
