Hi Everyone,

The character that I am playing is an 8th level Beguiler and I need help in picking spells for Advance Learning or Eclectic Learning. For my first Advance Learning I took the essential Distract Assailant. Your input and suggestions are all welcome.

For Advance Learning, I tried Elation with the DM but its too powerful; considering majority of the beguiler's spells is hit-or-miss I wanted a boost spell (im trying to avoid other hit-or-miss spells). I could go with Heroism, which helps with skills such as +2 to Bluff, to hit, saves, etc. and versatile to be cast on other characters. But that spell is not attractive to me but its something to fall back on. Any other suggestions on useful Enchantment and Illusion spells up to 3rd level?

For Eclectic Learning, which I can only pick up to 2nd level from other schools, I'm looking for ones that'll supplement the Beguiler and its abilities. There's Divinations spells, the spell's name eludes me for I dont have the book currently, that provides +10 to Concentration (helpful when tumbling about invisibly). Another divination spell provides +10 to spell penetration.

Then there's Celerity, allowing a move action as a immediate action but I become dazed for 1 round. Is this one useful?

Once again, all input is welcome.

From spell compendium My 3rd level Beguiler is looking forware to either:
Cone of Dimness: will based blindness in 60' cone
Ray of Dizziness: no save ray touch attack. Target may only take move or standard action (as slow except 1 target no save)

Suspend silence, Sting Ray (as Ray of Dizziness except to save every round as free action, and hampers casting as the standard action). Were also considered and dismissed. Of course, any other school 2nd level hasn't been dismissed either.

But for Cone of Dimness, Glitterdust (forgot the name) is still better due to blinding and exposing invisible creatures.

I was thinking Ray of Stupidity to stop arcane spellcasters. But I know its useless against divine and charisma using spellcasters.

Should I instead take a damage or hampering spell (like grease) of up to 2nd level to stop threats that can't be affected by most beguiler magic such as construct, undead, swarm, etc.?

If your DM allows you to use Races of the Dragon I would highly recommend looking at all of the truenaming spells in there as they all belong to the Enchantment school and have many powerful effects. A good example is Power Word Pain, which is a level one spell that deals 1d6 damage to the afflicted every round on a failed will save. Other highter level ones include very powerful blindness and deafness effects for hampering enemies.

grease is a great spell as it has many applications, like preventing archers from shooting or getting a party member of out a grapple.

Ray of stupidity is great against animals and some low INT monsters; takes them out in one hit. But it's so effective against spell casters.

shock and awe is a 1st level spell that gives enimies a -10 to initiative as long as you surprise them.

shadow spray is level 2 that does STR damage.

phantasmal assailants is level 2 that does DEX and WIS damage.

Is Power Word: Pain mind effecting?

Im asking because, im looking towards more of spells that also affect creatures such as undead, construct, etc. basically mindless.

With Eclectic Learning, I could take Scorching Ray as a 3rd level spell, is it then worth it?
