Beguiler's advanced learning? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-14-07, 03:20 AM I am currently playing a half-drow beguiler. I have just reached 3rd level and this gives me the opportunity to pick one spell from the illusion/enchantment school that is within my casting ability and add it to my spell list. Great! the only problem is the ONLY spell in those schools that I do not already have is Nystul's magic Aura! NOT much of a choice is it? This seems like a mistake on WOtC's part. Why give a class a feat like this as a level progression when you can only get one spell out of it? I know there are other books with a small number of spells for these schools, but they are all higher level than 1st. Which is the highest level of spell I can pick. So what am I to do?

03-14-07, 03:38 AM You could get Spell Compendium and select a spell from there. I always assumed those were the spells most people would look to.

When you get to 5th lv, try taking 1 lv of mindbender, then resume levelling in beguiler. It will let you push advanced learning back by a lv. The new benefit is great...:)

There are some in 2nd level, but I have to pick from spells I can cast currently, and at 3rd level I can only cast o-1st level spells. and as far as taking a level in mindbender I have decided to only take levels in rogue if any cross-classing....

03-14-07, 10:00 PM You could do the variant (copied from the warmage in PHB II) where you can pick ANY spell from ANY school. Check PHB II for more details.

Well, there are illusion and enchantment spells (for example, Distract, Distract Assailant, Incite, Inhibit and Shock and Awe are Enchantment and Dead End, Net of Shadows and Serene Viasge are Illusions). There are spells in other books too (Friendly Face in Races of Destiny gives a +5 bonus to Diplomacy and Gather Information checks). Are you saying that there are no such spells that you'd want?

Search IMarvinTPA (http://www.imarvintpa.com/dndLive/FindSpell.php). I'm sure you'll find something.

what books are the spells like dead end and net of shadows in?

Sorry, I was unclear. Those are Spell Compendium, 1st level spells. Whatever books you can use, IMarvin TPA is a great search engine for finding them though.
