| The Simbul06-07-05, 11:43 PM | I prefer Magic of Faerun over any of the others. However, it is 3.0, many of the spells have weaker 3.5 versions which you have to shell out $32.95 to get a copy of, and many other spells in the book are very overpowered or abuseable, and it is a campaign setting specific book. I did buy Complete Arcane, but really regret it for several reasons; 1) Several dozen arcane spells in that book are exclusive to non-core classes (like the Wujen, and that 2-dimensional combat class known as the Warmage) and arent on the Sor/Wiz spell list, even though they dont do anything that a Sor/Wiz wouldnt normally be capable of. 2) With the magebane property, the insanely overpowered Mage Slayer feats, and the nerfing of almost every Epic feat for epic Spellcasters, the subtitle should have been "a complete guide to killing arcane spellcasters" instead of how to play them. Its nice having those toys when you are facing a mage, but you soon lose your enthusiam for them when the NPCs start using them on you.you are on the recieving end. 3) The over-use of the Conjuration (Creation) subschool just to get attack spells not subject to SR really bothered me. There were several useful spells in that book, some fo which all my characters use quite often, but if I had access to it via a friend or gaming group that had a copy then I probably wouldnt have bought it, since I only use a handful of material from it. Plus I hate splatbooks anyways, so I am a bit biased in this regard. |
| DonGnocci06-08-05, 08:48 AM | I second that. |
| MrkGrismer06-08-05, 09:40 AM | the nerfing of almost every Epic feat for epic Spellcasters I'm not disagreeing with anything you said, but I'm not following you on this one. What do you mean? |
