Out of the Complete books, PHB, and PHBII, what are the top 33 or top 5 best illusion spells to use if you're going to make a wizard specializing heavily in illusions?

Mirror Image, Displacement, Invisibility (Greater), Phantasmal Killer, Mislead, Shades (And the other spells in the Shadow line...). Yes, that's 6 or more spells. Cope.

I can deal with this many :)

Now, which spells can cause fear in my opponents? Causing them to be shaken, frightened, panicked, etc?

I really want to be focus on illusion spells that can help me kill things (or those that deal lots of non-lethal damage) and fear-causing illusion spells.

Mostly (if not only) necromantic spells can do this. Cause Fear, Scare and Fear I guess. I don't remember the PH2 spells to much so I'm not sure about this one.

Other than Phantasmal Killer, illusions aren't too good at killing. You'll be able to confuse your opponents but that's about it.

I'm trying to build an Illusionist that can knock people out with non-lethal damage. Going with Illusionist --> Nightmare Spinner --> Master Specialist or something like that. I get an ability as Nightmare spinner that does this: Beginning at 3rd level, creatures affected by a fear effect you cause (whether by a spell, class feature, or other effect) take nonlethal damage as well, depending on the potency of the fear created.

Project Image (one of the most powerful, especially in combination with Prismatic Sphere;) ), Superior Invisibility and Color Spray (1st level nice one spell).

Where is Superior Invis from?

Complete Arcane.
It functions just like greater invisibility, except you make no scent, sound, or image. :)

It has been reprinted in the Spell Compendium though.
