| Kinghappo03-22-06, 02:22 AM | I was wondering, i like to have a lot of bad guys explodeing, teleporting, and doing other things when they hit low hp levels but it got me wondering, i know that some higher level guys can start crafting contingencies, but what do yall feel is the best all purpose one to have put on a body.... of course true resurection upon death doesn't coun't it's an obvious one (as well as expensive as hell) |
| runestar03-22-06, 02:32 AM | Stone to flesh if petrified. Freedom of movement if made helpless(ie hold person/grappled etc) True res after death might be a bit risky, I would have another contingency teleport the body to a safehaven prior to resurrecting it. Alternatively, use the clone spell. A billion offensive damage spells set to go off when the enemy mage dies... :D |
| ManTimeForgot03-22-06, 02:39 AM | Contingent Time Stop if attacked. Contingent Absorption if a spell is cast at me. Contingent Disjunction with a hole cut out for me using mastery of shaping if someone attacks me in melee. Contingent Solid Fog if attacked. Contingent Pristmatic Sphere/Wall if attacked. (initiate of the sevenfold veil makes this a serious waste of money in most cases). MTF |
| Kinghappo03-22-06, 03:20 AM | I was thinking polymorph if engaged i lose a grapple check, for wizards, divine power (or whatever that spell that gives you a fighter's bab) if engaged in melee combat (Boy would that suprise that fighter who thought he had an easy win lol) |
| Rebornarcanist03-22-06, 05:42 AM | The Contingency spell only allows you to have spells of up to 6th level made contingent. So timestop and contingency dont go together. There are a 9th level spell called chain contingency, but i cant remenber if it allows higher than 6 th level spells. Contingency is a powerfull defence, but the wording of the 'trigger' is essential. |
| ManTimeForgot03-22-06, 07:02 AM | He's referring to the craft contingency feat. We are all well aware of the contingency spells limitations here. MTF |
| malignor03-22-06, 11:51 AM | Contingency (via the spell) Level 11 (lowest level): When I take real damage from a foe, Invisibility Level 12 (4th level spells available): When I take real damage from a foe, Improved Invisibility or Polymorph - Barbed Devil or Leonal (heal as if rested; still able to cast spells and use all equipment; medium size) Level 15 (5th level spells available): When I have 1/4 hitpoints, Teleport to "Arcane Mark #432" Level 18 (6th level spells available): When attacked, Mislead ... to me, these are the classics. |
| Kinghappo03-23-06, 08:56 AM | oooohhh how about this, Upon getting criticaly hit: quickened invisibility Upon becoming the target of quickened invisibility: Quickened major image of you dying |
| Osiris Memnoch03-23-06, 10:00 AM | I'm a big fan of making a good old fasioned Bigby's Hand spell (forget the name of the 5th level one) to be cast the next time someone tries to attack you when you're denied your dexterity bonus. If you're small, the hand grants 100% cover and you live to cast another day and the guy attacking you gets pushed back giving you some room. And as with all Hand spells, YOU are the technical target so it is a legal choice as a Contingency. This move saved a buddy of mine from instant death from a sneak attack on steriods from a half-dragon rogue that DEFINATELY would have killed him a couple times over had he not been polymorphed into an owl and had that exact contingency. Needless to say we were very upset at the DM since she did not know he had that contingency and she would have outright killed him otherwise. |
| Kinghappo03-24-06, 04:11 AM | i figured it was the dm's job to kill people and the player's jobs not to die? lol |
| vanquo03-24-06, 08:57 PM | Contingent Energy Immunity Fire when contacted by Fire Contingent Energy Immunity Cold when... (same for acid, sonic and so on) Contingent Globe of Invulnerability if hit by a offensive Spell lvl 4 or less Contingent Effulgent Epuration if hit by a targeted offensive Spell lvl 5 or higher Contingent greater Resistance+Illykurs Mantle when targeted with Offensive Area Spell, lvl 5 or higher (eventually Contingent Prismatic Sphere if you expect some real nasty Area Spells like Horrid Wilting or Wail of the Banshee) Contingent Shield, Stoneskin, greater Mage Armor, Mislead... when attacked in melee or ranged (you can add a couple of other spells here..) Contingent Teleport, Prisma Sphere or Synostodwoemer if below XX HP Contingent Planar Tolerance when entering Plain other Material Contingent Mind Blank when hit by Spell, Effect, Ability that ist Mind Affecting or Scrying. |
| smrtgmp03-24-06, 09:05 PM | I played a high level abjurer in a one shot game who had a slew of contingent spells on him. Some I remember: Mindblank if mindblank is dispelled Freedom if affected by Imprisonment Timestop if surprised Shapechange if affected by tensor's transformation (I then kept a scroll of TT just in case) Dimension Door if grappled there were close to 20 in all, but I cant remember any more at the moment. |
