What are the best spell to extend?

Personally i think that there are two divinations at 8th level that cast the day before a dragon hunt can be very useful. They are:
Moment of prescience and Greater prying eyes.
They have a duration of min 15 hours (caster level to cast 8 is 15) and with extend they have a duration of min 30 hours. So you can cast them before the night to have them active all the day after. :)

Please add your choice to this list. Thanks.

Im a big fan of endure elements. It may be a very small effect, but because it starts with a 24 hour duration, it can be cast for free. Memorize it, then if you havent cast it/converted it (I LIKE clerics), you cast it before going to bed. Viola, fire resistance 5 for the next 2 days. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Generally, anything with a duration of 1 hour/level is obviously useful to extend.

Darkvision, Greater Magic Weapon, Greater Mighty Wallop, etc.

Even extending the 10 min/level spells is not a bad idea since that could last quite a while for your standard dungeon delve type of adventure. My personal favorites are Resist Energy (10-30 energy resistance), Heroism (+2 morale bonus to hit and saves), and stoneskin.

It's a huge list. Try dropping the following search strings into Google

site:/www.d20srd.org duration "hours/level"
site:/www.d20srd.org duration "hour/level"

Spells like Wind Walk, Overland Flight, Water Breathing, (Greater) Mage Armor, Protection from Arrows jump out as potentially useful long duration spells.

Or the same site has a spell filter...

I think there have also been threads giving info to more complex spell filters.

Some spells have a duration of 1 day, like mindblank and create magic tattoo. Extend those, then rest and regain all your spells again.:D

An extended forcecage can be a cruel joke to play on your PCs as well...:P

Ah, if only endure elements granted fire resistance. What a wonderful world it would be.

At low levels: rope trick.
At high levels: magic vestments for your entire party (and their (animated?) shields, if any) the night before an adventure. Only requires a cheap lesser rod of extend or two, and effectively doesn't use up slots during the adventure. Even better if you first boost your level with a bead of karma, death knell, a borrowed orange ioun stone, etc.

Also good with greater magic weapon.

Flaming sphere. A 2nd level spell with 1/rnd per level doing 2d6 damage on a failed save. At 5th level, the spell lasts 2/rnd per level, 10 rounds, doing 2d6 damage per round, potential 20d6 damage in ten rounds.

Cast another and control two each round, throwing them at opponents who must keep 'reflexing' to avoid them. 20d6x2 = 40d6. Not bad for 5th level, 2 extended spells. move action to move a sphere. two move actions to move two spheres.

Get yourself invisible and off the ground, they can't find you while you flail about at them with your two rolling balls of fire. Invis & Levitate.

Dominate Person (I just love having my slaves do all the 'dirty' work) and Planar Binding. I love having minons.
