Golems are immune to spells the are affected by spell resistance........any ideas about strategies or spells not affected by spell resistance...we have a 9th level wizard and an 8th level cleric in the party. Any ideas appreciated::)

If the Wizard can make a Knowledge(arcana) check to know the weaknesses of Golems, then you are all set.

If you were higher in level, I'd recommend Stone to Flesh (gets rid of damage reduction and spell resistance for 1 full round). Transmute Rock to Mud will slow it for 2d6 rounds though (no save). If you have that, I'd use it.

Any of the Orb line of spells (Complete Arcane or Spell Compendium) will work wonders. Both of those books have several spells that ignore SR (check the conjuration spells for damage dealers).

Melf's Acid Arrow can work if you do hit and runs. The Stone Golem is not very quick and can't heal on its own. So that's a low level, PHB solution. It will take some time though. Attack and retreat, and never get close. The Orb Spells are easier and the 4th level ones do more damage, however.

Anything you summon will work normally, but you need a heavy hitter to get by the damage reduction. Lantern Archons will work (SMIV, but that's just 2d6 damage per round, each. Range of 30 feet. Nothing else you can summon is probably going to hit, however.

Beyond that just buff your party and make sure you have a couple of haste spells memorized. It can slow you.

Grease or Sleet Storm can leave the golem totally helpless, stuck flailing around on the ground while the party pummels it with adamantine arrows/bolts. Highly recommended.

Silent image (or better) to create a wall around the golem will literally cause it to stop moving. Its mindless, so it doesn't try to interact with the illusion and therefore gets no save. (Doesn't work as well if someone is giving it commands, but how often have you seen that? And it still has to pass the will save). You can direct your party members to interact with the wall to disbelieve, and then use arrows or other ranged offense to finish the golem while it sits there, or you can just walk by it and 'defeat' the encounter by having bypassed it.

Wall of Force (or another wall) can lock it out of combat, and allow you to bypass it. However, why waste a high level spell when silent image will do the same thing?

I second Squirrelloid. I'll also suggest glitterdust, which totally owns golems and is a good spell in its own right.

It has no ranks in any skills. Just invis the whole party and sneak past it. Add silence if need be.:P

I think there is a lightning version of the splash of acid cantrip. Since it ignores sr, it can affect an iron golem. So at the cheap cost of a cantrip every other round, you get to slow it down while your fighters pound on it using hit and run tactics.:)
