im possibly going to be taking a level in bard for my fighter, and i get 4 level 0 spells from the bard list. which would be the most useful and why. i already am fairly sure detect magic and read magic will be on the top of the list but the others im not sure about right now.

dancing lights
daze
detect magic
flare ghost sound
know direction
light
lullaby
mage hand
message
open/close
prestidigitation
read magic
resistance
summon instrument.

if you have suggestions from other books let me know as well.

Flare - can be useful at lower levels, but because has most likely very low DC, becomes totally useless over time.

Prestidigitation – Performs minor tricks (e.g. color, clean, soil, chill or warm objects). This means that you can keep your clothes and yourself clean always and warm your food or chill your drinks.

Resistance – Target gains +1 on saving throws for 1 minute. This is very useful at lower levels.

Light - If you haven't got other means to see in the dark, this is handy.

The following spells I consider to be by far the best:

1. dancing lights (You want to light up and see your ENEMEIES, not yourself)
2. detect magic (Finds traps, treasures, powerfull creatures, etc. etc.)
3. mage hand (For the things you just DON'T want to touch)
4. prestidigitation (first of the general do anything spell)
5. read magic (Scrolls. Did I mention Scrolls? And don't forget SCROLLS)
