| Paladin's Pride03-20-08, 03:11 AM | One of the major villains for my present campaign is a Wizard 6/Wyrm Wizard 10/Archmage 4. For those of you who don't own dragon magic, the Wyrm Wizard has a class feature where it can select a few spells from other class lists and add those spells to its own class list. Unlike warmage and some of the other classes who get similar class features, there is no restriction on the school or spell list that these spells may be chosen from. I am attempting to figure out which spells to select. One will undoubtedly be heal from the cleric list, but I'm not sure of what other spells to select. Any suggestions as to what some of the best spells to add to his list would be? |
| narack03-20-08, 07:51 AM | My personnal favorite cleric spell. (Also Holy Aura for the inverse) Unholy Aura Abjuration [Evil] Level: Clr 8, Evil 8 Components: V, S, F Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: 20 ft. Targets: One creature/level in a 20-ft.-radius burst centered on you Duration: 1 round/level (D) Saving Throw: See text Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) A malevolent darkness surrounds the subjects, protecting them from attacks, granting them resistance to spells cast by good creatures, and weakening good creatures when they strike the subjects. This abjuration has four effects. First, each warded creature gains a +4 deflection bonus to AC and a +4 resistance bonus on saves. Unlike the effect of protection from good, this benefit applies against all attacks, not just against attacks by good creatures. Second, a warded creature gains spell resistance 25 against good spells and spells cast by good creatures. Third, the abjuration blocks possession and mental influence, just as protection from good does. Finally, if a good creature succeeds on a melee attack against a warded creature, the offending attacker takes 1d6 points of temporary Strength damage (Fortitude negates). Focus: A tiny reliquary containing some sacred relic, such as a piece of parchment from an unholy text. The reliquary costs at least 500 gp. Another Cleric spell, if you don't already have spell resistance for him here's a good one (SR of 32 in the case of your evil mage with this spell on) Spell Resistance Abjuration Level: Clr 5, Magic 5, Protection 5 Components: V, S, DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: Creature touched Duration: 1 min./level Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) The creature gains spell resistance equal to 12 + your caster level. |
| unundindur03-20-08, 08:00 AM | Some obvious ones comes to mind: Heal, Divine power (as a mage, even better), Unholy word (only if you have a high CL), Implosion, Miracle. |
| runestar03-20-08, 09:14 AM | One will undoubtedly be heal from the cleric list Don't. Heal is a 6th lv cleric spell. Instead select it from the adept spell list, which has heal as a 5th lv spell.:) |
| Neraagile03-20-08, 09:33 AM | It also works very, very well with Abjurant Chamption.... 4 levels of Wurm Wizard, getting Divine Power and Armor of Darkness Armor of Darkness Abjuration [Darkness] Level: Darkness 4 Components: V, S, DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Targets: Creature touched Duration: 10 minutes/level (D) Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) The shroud grants the subject a +4 deflection bonus to Armor Class plus an additional +1 for every three caster levels above 7th. The subject can see through the armor as if it did not exist and is also afforded darkvision out to 60 feet. The subject gains a +2 saving throw bonus against any holy, good or light spell or effect. Undead creatures that are subjects of armor of darkness also gain +4 turn resistance. |
| runestar03-20-08, 10:16 AM | I normally would not recommend divine power, since a wizard is typically not meant to be a melee combatant, but if you do want it, see if you can access unapproachable east, since the runescarred berserker prc has divine power as a 3rd lv spell (as opposed to 4th lv cleric), though I wouldn't recommend getting the whole book just for it.:P If you don't mind blasting, duskblade offers polar ray as a 5th lv spell. |
