| BruceLeeroy09-20-07, 06:29 AM | I'm looking for opinions on the best Level 4-6 spells to use my DMM-Persistent on. I've got enough for two spells, I'm CL10 cleric. Currently, I'm thinking Divine Agility and Divine Power. Anyone got any better ideas? |

Currently, I'm thinking Divine Agility and Divine Power. Anyone got any better ideas? DMM - Righteous Might + Divine Power is better I think. Full BAB +10 Temp Hp +10 Str (Enchancement+Size) +2 Con (Size) +1 Size Category (Reach is win.) +2 Natural Armor 3/evil DR Also increases your equipment size so fun times. I usually build a tripping cleric and use the Reach to avoid AoO's tho. |
| Keenath09-20-07, 10:43 AM | Divine Metamagic Persist is absolute CHEESE. Divine Power + Righteous Might is the right answer though, if you insist on being gamebreaking. |
| tarkin09-20-07, 11:09 AM | Also, you are going to need a ring of Counterspelling (Dispell Magic) at the very least. |
| tafkamhokie09-20-07, 01:20 PM | Also, you are going to need a ring of Counterspelling (Dispell Magic) at the very least. Personally, I would get two rings of counterspelling...one with dispel magic, the other with greater dispel magic. With DMM, you are a complete one-trick pony. If it goes down for any reason, you are totally neutered until the next day. |
| goawayugh09-20-07, 03:22 PM | I thought I remember seeing a thread a while back about some of the best spells of each level to persist, probably on the CO board. Anyone remember that and have a link to it? |
| Dheran09-20-07, 08:34 PM | It depends on what you're going to be doing, and where you'll be going. If you expect to travel across planes, Avoid Planar Effects (Spell Compendium) is the spell to persist. If you're going to be in a battle against hordes of enemies, Manifestation of the Deity (Complete Scoundrel) will have most of them shaken -- a huge disadvantage. If you can sneak attack and you're going to be up against lots of undead, Grave Strike (Spell Compendium) is what you want. Don't get locked into one idea of the "best" spell(s) to persist. Pay attention to your circumstances and adjust accordingly. |
| sijigs09-20-07, 08:52 PM | This must be Persistent Spell Week or something.... 4th or 5th thread I've seen, I swear. |
| BruceLeeroy09-20-07, 09:22 PM | Meh. I don't really consider DMM to be cheese. At 7 turn attempts per spell, you really have to push your resources in order to get more than 1 or two spells. And like others have noted, there's nothing preventing them from being dispelled. They just allow you to fight more encounters in a day, at best. And Righteous Might doesn't really work for me. Being 10' tall isn't exactly subtle, and the character is on the run in a foreign country that just beat the crap out of his homeland. As for being a one trick pony? How does that make any sense at all? ANY caster is subject to dispel attempts. Getting your buffs knocked off doesn't make a cleric useless. It just means they have to be more careful about positioning, and staying behind the fighter. 'Sides, with the Magic domain, I can use wands. Go ahead, dispel my Righteous Might/Divine Power/Divine Agility/Divine Might/Greater Luminous Armor/Shield of Faith. I'll still hit you with Web, Magic Missile, Grease, and all the other useful lvl 1 and 2 Sor/Wiz spells. Not to mention being able to cure my allies and remove conditions. Dheran: Good idea with the gravestrike. Undead are a natural part of this campaign world, so it would probably come in handy. |
| EpicEvokerElf09-20-07, 10:36 PM | It makes you a 1-trick pony because if you get dispelled, you can't rebuff until tomorrow (not permanently, anyway). That's why dispel kills DMM. But yeah, Divine Power and Righteous Might FTW. |
| BruceLeeroy09-20-07, 10:50 PM | Again, how is that a one-trick pony? I'm a pony with many useful tricks, Divine MetaMagic is only one of them. Sure, it can get dispelled, but so can a regular casting of Righteous Might. And then you can't cast that again, unless you've memorized it twice, and if that's the case you can do the same thing if one of them are metamagiced. Fact: Divine Metamagic does not make you a one-trick pony. |
