What is your best use of the Silent and Still Metamagic feats in your campaign?

What spell did you use the two feats on?

My best, which isn't saying much (I just want to hear what everyone else has done), is when my wizard was locked up in a jail cell. There were a few guards outside the cell that threatened to kill me outright if I made a single movement or sound. They had stripped me of everything but an Oil of Etherealness. What I did was cast a Silent and Stilled Fog Cloud in the cell to grant me concealment and confuse the guards. Then I put on the Oil and cast Silent Image of myself sitting in the cell, not moving of course. When the fog disappated, I had used my etherealness granted by the oil to escape the cell, and the guards had not a clue because all they saw was me still sitting there quietly.

I'd love to hear what everyone else has done, please respond with any creative combination.

I didn't use the Still spell feat for this, but I used Silent spell for it:

(A bit of background info: the campaign I was playing in allowed spell slots higher than 9th level if your casting ability was 30 or higher, and I was a 21st-level wizard with 33 Int).

The most fun I had with the Silent spell, since the wizard was chaotic evil, was walking into a crowded area and suddenly killing 4 people just by thinking it. The DM thought it was really funny.

haha, nice.

for everyone else, it can be an application of silent spell, still spell, or a combiantion of both.

we had this sword that was meant to kill a lich, it had its phillactery(sp?).

when we got to him i silenced and stilled a mage hand to give the lich a wedgie, really quick, I yelled "look someone's behind you!"

then I quickened a true strike on the fighter and he therew the sword, it obviously hit him, and put the lich's soul back in his body, killing him instantly.

Long live Cantrips!

I had an NPC Vampire in a fight one with an unfailable means of escape: a silent and still dimension door. When the vampire is reduced to 0 hp, it automatically transforms to gaseous forms and has to try to escape. It uses its preloaded dim door for that and avoids all attemps of the PCs to track its back to its coffin. :P

Nice one blooddemon.

Anyone else out there with really sneaky and creative uses of Silent or Still spell?

Here's another...
A Silent and Stilled Detect Thoughts to spy on those unsuspecting merchants or spellcasters.

They had stripped me of everything but an Oil of Etherealness.

I'm afraid to ask where he had the flask of oil hidden...

For my money, the best use of still & silent is for enchantment spells in those pesky situations where it would be impolite to cast them, like the Ducal Ball or a Courtroom.

My wizard always has a still, silent Charm Person or Suggestion, and a still, silent Dominate Person can be great fun.

Silent, still, casting of magic missile while in gaseous form.

You don't need to still Suggestion, it doesn't have a somatic component.

Well, I don't know if this *exactly* qualifies... but...

I was playing a Gnome wizard through all of the Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil module. At one point in the adventure, there's a battle at the top of a tower-like structure underground, with a group of grells (which look like flying brains with tentacles). Grells' tentacles have paralytic toxin, and me being a wizard, I got zapped by it on the first try. (Curse my fortitude save! Even WITH an un-wizardly constitution score...) Paralyzed for 1d4 turns.

At any rate, about the time I'm grappled and paralyzed and hanging from a grell floating over a three hundred foot deep chasm, my friends decided that a crossbow barrage would be the best way to save me. :ahem:

So of COURSE they killed the grell, and I went plummeting.

We had to look up the falling rules (fall 150 ft in the first turn, and 300 ft every subsequent turn), and it turned out that the pit was actually deep enough that I fell for one turn, un-paralyzed, and got off a featherfall in time to save myself from certain splattery doom.

So, basically, while I was drifting down I decided that I'd start spending a 2nd level slot EVERY DAY on a silent Featherfall, so that I could use it even paralyzed or gagged...

I don't think I ever had a situation after that when the silent was really necessary, but it made me feel better... And poor Glim was always scared of heights after that...

Nice.
Thats a nice, creative way to use those feats.
Anyone else? I want to hear examples from your campaigns!

This is an old one but I actually take the Silent Spell feat 100% for this application. A silent teleport has no components and so it can not be disrupted. It is the ultimate escape spells and, 90% of the time, if I have a high enough level spell slot this will be in it.

Since many sorcerers I build have arcane preparation, even a sorcerer might have this one prepared just so that there can be no doubt as to being able to escape at will.

Silent teleports are great.

But they can still be disrupted, and still provoke attacks of opportunity.

If you are grappled, it would still be a DC 26 concentration check to silent teleport away (20 + spell level).

I have a wizard who took the sudden silent spell feat just to be able to cast a silent teleport or dimension door if the need ever arises. (It hasn't...yet).

Yes, but as a character who has another character pinned can prevent the pinned character from speaking only a silent teleport has a chance of working and DC 26 is not a tough concentration check for those levels.
