| Sigma3456106-13-07, 09:33 AM | This might be a Skill/Feat thread but I think those "Skill/Feat" guys can't hold a candle to to the "Magic and Spell" people. My artificer just grabbed 8th lvl, and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to take Craft Construct as a bonus feat. Naturally, I would like to get the best use of this feat possible. Artificers get +2 lvls when determining what you can create, so I can make anything up to Caster Lvl 10. The only thing in Core I can make is a Flesh Golem, and I could already make all the homunculi. I would rather not create an army of homunculi because my DM would love crushing them and watching my eyes bulge as I take 2d10 damage and all the money goes down the drain. I would like to make a list here of all the constructs that one could make and at what lvl. I would like to avoid putting every Effigy from CA that I could make, except for ones that have exceptional scores, or abilites. Thanks For Your Help! |
| Mai_ariti06-13-07, 01:34 PM | Dragon #341 has "lesser" golems: Fungus Golem CL7 Poison Gas Breath Weapon and Infecting Touch SA Junk Golem CL7 Metal Rot (rust gas), Salvage and Self-Repair SQ Paper Golem CL5 Augmented Critical, Vulnerability to Fire and Vulnerability to Slashing Tin Golem CL5 Actually has INT! (huzzah!), Can use Craft skills and wield weapons (simple, martial and shields), and can speak. Wax Golem CL5 Lifelike (+15 Disguise to look like it is not a Golem, +10 to look like a specific person), melts when distroyed. Wood Golem CL5 Buoyant, Fast Repair and Fire Vulnerability I like the Junk, Paper, Tin, Wax and Wood ones. . . Pick the ones you like and I'll try to put their stats up for you. . . |

| Kevin Andrew Murphy06-13-07, 02:55 PM | It's worth mentioning that a Medium gold dragon effigy with only 8 HD makes the fastest (200 movement speed) mount you can get for a small character, and a Large effigy can be made with 11 HD if you can arrange to get an orange ioun stone. Other than that, my effigy master character has found that her first effigy, a manticore, has been useful both as a mount and as a crossbow. |
| Tempest Stormwind06-13-07, 03:17 PM | Interesting tidbit: You can make effigies of templated creatures. Just make sure the templates you add before effigy don't invalidate it first. This can result in truly ludicrous stunts -- look up Mr. Roboto on the CO boards for a simple example. |

Yes, but generally if you add more than one template, the DM will invoke the great god NIMGYD (Not In My Game, You Don't!) and his wife, NIMGYDA (supply the meaning of the final A yourself). Even following the "add only one template rule" causes problems. For example, while a half-fey templated octopus would be incredibly cool, and cause san loss for both Alienists AND fey, my DM has ruled that Heironymous Bosch visions are not allowed in his game, only actual creatues who exist and I've personally witnessed. So Dire Lions as per the book example are fine, but no half-fey octopi unless I can engineer the breeding of a living specimen first. Which is a worthy quest, but not one I've yet attempted. |
| Sigma3456106-14-07, 10:40 AM | The Behir Effigy looked like it keeps enough cool powers to be worth its heft pricetag. And the Spider Eater Effigy somehow keeps it ability to lay eggs into helpless opponents. I was thinking about making a Mind Flayer Effigy to follow me around and be my slave. It still keeps its Extract power. I checked out the Clockwork Wonders articles online. The Clockwork Spider Theif and the Universal Key both seem cool enough to have a couple of. I havent had a chance to page through the two newest Monster Manuals and look for anything that stands out as a great Effigy. The Clockwork steed is nice, and the Clockwork Mender would be great for flanking and assisting if it wasnt homunculi only. |
