| PhaedrusXY09-28-06, 03:52 PM | Here is the "best" use (and also the one most likely to get the DM's dice thrown at you): 1) Take levels of Mage of the Arcane Order 2) Draw a spell from the Spell Pool. 3) Cast it. 4) Reprepare it using Rary's Mnemonic Enhancer. 5) Scribe it into your spellbook. 6) Repeat until you have all spells this works for. Then move up to Mordenkainen's Lubrication, and finally Pearls of Power. |
| Joseph_Silver09-28-06, 04:00 PM | I don't think that's legal, and even if it is, any decent DM would never let you get away with it. You'd think that the Arcane Order would've patched up that loophole already. |
| PhaedrusXY09-28-06, 04:06 PM | Why? How is that hurting the Arcane Order? I can understand the DM not allowing it, but I don't see how "in game" the Arcane Order would care. You're using another spell to refresh your memory of the spell you just cast. I'm sure you can come up with reasons as to why they should care, but I am also equally sure that I could come up with reasons as to why they shouldn't. I also see no reason why it isn't legal. However, it is obvious that you won't be using it, so I will leave your thread alone and not hijack it with an argument about it. I think without "tricks" like this, Mnemonic Enhancer is pretty useless. If the DM would let you put it into a Wand it could be pretty handy, but kind of expensive. |

Though, as a DM, I call it a severe case of cheese, and I wouldnt allow it. Lastly, as long as you kept paying your dues, I'm pretty sure the Order doesnt care what you do with the spells you take from the pool (assuming you dont do something to threaten the order, and as long as you repay the spell.). |
| Joseph_Silver09-28-06, 08:20 PM | My problem with this trick is that the Mage of the Arcane Order prestige class explicitly says that you cannot learn spells that you get from the Spellpool. You have to learn it the normal way, e.g. through a scroll or through a mentor. If a simple 4th level spell can bypass this drawback of the Spellpool, then why bother stating that you cannot learn spells from the Spellpool? Why not say that you can learn spells from the Spellpool by using Rary's Mnemonic Enhancer? To me this trick feels like the Bag of Rats Fighter trick. |

| runestar09-28-06, 11:59 PM | You can't learn directly, but you can indirectly, by scribing a scroll, and then copying the scroll into your spellbook. It's not cheap, so I don't quite see anything broken about it.:P |
