| Seeker9512-07-05, 08:24 PM | 1. Make your saving throw. 2. Take that job as aoprentice stable boy. 3. Stay out of range of a wizard. 4. Look harmless. |
| Seeker of Undeath12-07-05, 08:34 PM | Roll a natural 20. |
| Meloku12-07-05, 08:40 PM | Don't let them be cast on you. Or become an Undead (Necropolitain - No LA and Immunity to instant death (sp?)(Libris Mortis)) -Meloku |
| Centauri12-07-05, 08:45 PM | A ring of spell turning. A rod of absorbtion. A spell of death ward. |
| Jherid12-07-05, 09:15 PM | Get the Soulfire armor enhancement. |
| Hanniball12-08-05, 01:34 AM | I'd say the easiest method is that suggested by Centauri: Death Ward Necromancy Level: Clr 4, Death 4, Drd 5, Pal 4 Components: V, S, DF Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: Touch Target: Living creature touched Duration: 1 min./level Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless) Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless) The subject is immune to all death spells, magical death effects, energy drain, and any negative energy effects. This spell doesn’t remove negative levels that the subject has already gained, nor does it affect the saving throw necessary 24 hours after gaining a negative level. Death ward does not protect against other sorts of attacks even if those attacks might be lethal. I'm not sure the price of the Soulfire enchantment, but if custom items are allowed an item of constant Death Ward would run ya 112,000 (4*7*2000*2) I think... Better off being a cleric with Divine Metamagic: Persistant spell, but that's not always an option. Either way...just my 0.02 cp |
| smrtgmp12-08-05, 01:41 AM | Divine Persistant wont work with deathward. |
| cwslyclgh12-08-05, 02:14 AM | Better off being a cleric with Divine Metamagic: Persistant spell, but that's not always an option as smrtgmp said, death ward cannot be made persistant (nor can any other spell with a range of :touch) |
| ubernex12-08-05, 02:51 AM | 10th level Doomguide (FR specialty preist of Kelemvor). Takes care of a bunch of them. Still have to worry about Disinigrate though... Also, get high enough level and use the Optional Epic rules for Disinigrate/Destruction and other lower level "save or die" spells. |
| Rhomphaia12-08-05, 05:00 AM | By and large, most of those save or die spells are Fortitude saves. Buff the **** out of your Constitution and Fortitude save by feat, spell and magic item, and you should probably be alright. |
| Lyinginbedmon12-08-05, 05:04 AM | Not forgetting that most of them are Death spells, so death ward works. Also, remember that boosting your Constitution affects your Hit Points, meaning boost it high enough and you'll probably be immune to power word kill ;) |
| kjenks12-08-05, 08:57 AM | There's an armor special ability in Complete Arcane that would help. |
| copperwood12-08-05, 01:46 PM | What do you guys think as the best ways to avoid instant death spells like Slay Living and Destruction? Stay at home with a nice cup of tea. |
| kjenks12-08-05, 02:35 PM | My 15th level fighter mutt in Living Greyhawk wears a +1 Gnome Battle Cloak (Races of Stone) with the Death Ward (Complete Arcane) ability. (I know, it's a shield with an armor ability, but that's how it goes.) He also wears an Amulet of Fortune Prevailing (Miniatures Handbook), which allows a re-roll on one saving throw per day. This is almost mandatory for a high level fighter in this campaign since we use the Death by Massive Damage rule. At high levels, a front-line fighter can expect to get hit by 50+ hp swings three or four times per battle, and everybody fails even a DC 15 Fort save on a natural 1. |
| mvincent12-08-05, 04:18 PM | Scarab of protection |
| Jherid12-08-05, 07:48 PM | I'm not sure the price of the Soulfire enchantment, but if custom items are allowed an item of constant Death Ward would run ya 112,000 (4*7*2000*2) I think... Soulfire is a straight +4 armor enhancement. |
