| Sanosuke Sagare02-06-04, 04:39 PM | I was in a campaign a while back, we were playing a mix of Dragonstar and D & D, when we stumbled upon a Dragon in the dungeon we were demolishing. (It was a late night campaign, you know how silly those can get.) We had a Wizard, a Cleric, and about six more combat oriented classes. The cleric gets the idea to cast Blade Barrier against the Dragon, but did not want it to affect the characters that were engaged in close combat with the thing. We had the Dragon backed up against a wall, so casting on the other side was not an option. Casting in front or in back was not an option, because we had it backed into a corner, and we were fighting it on the remaing two sides. Our Cleric decides that he is going to cast it above the Dragon, but on a vertical axis, like a giant buzzsaw. The Dragon took damage and moved, so he cast another one. The Dragon couldn't go anywhere but back into the first spell. We killed this thing in 5 rounds. That was cool. |

Each such creature can avoid the wall (ending up on the side of its choice) and thus take no damage by making a successful Reflex save. So basically you forgot to give the dragon his reflex save to negate all damage and take a free movement out from under it. (and probably forgot about any SR as well). |

Most dragons can cast spells, and what sorcerous dragon won't have dispel magic? 4. A dragon would have had you dead before you ever got in range to cast blade barrier. 5. Read the description of blade barrier again, and look for the flaw in how your DM let you use it. Again, your DM was being kind. I'd blame it on the late hour. |

Yep. It's not like they're going to hold it at bay... 3. True, true. But that wastes an action - I'd prefer option 2. 4. Absolute nonsense! This makes far too many presumptions - there are plenty of occasions in which D+D parties defeat dragons. I mean, just look at the name of the game! And most characters have to get very close to the dragon to kill it... 5. Yep. I love to disagree... |
