| Ciaina10-28-06, 05:58 PM | First thing first, hi all. This is my first post and as tradition no worse way to use it as for a request :D Had a couple of questions, but by checking other post some of them got already answered (had to check 24 pages, could not find the search button  BTW, if there IS a search button, please dont tell me so my ego doesnt shatter, tnx :D ). Now, let's get started. I have made a new char, a Wizard-illusionist/bard (I know, faaaaaaaar from being a power-play char, i did it only for the fun). Being the first biclass i ever did, i have some problem understanding the player-handbook explanation on spells. Being more specific: It says i get acces to BOTH the spells lists, and i have to keep SEPARATE spells lists for each class, so that if i use a spell present in both lists i have to declare which class is casting it in case effect is class-level determined. ALL CLEAR to this point. BUT, as a wizard i get access to ALL cantrips. As a bard, only to 4 of em. Let's say i dont pick "ghost sound". Since i KNOW the spell as a wizard, cant I cast it as a BARD ? I mean: I DO KNOW the spell (even as a wizard, yet the spell is THE SAME) I'll try to be as clear as possible: 3rd level spell: "BLINK". To be able to use it BOTH as a wizard and as a BARD, must i sacrifice 1 "spell slot" to learn it as a wizard, and another "spell slot" to learn it as a bard ? Or does it suffice that one class knows it and both of them can actually cast it ? If not, a Sorcerer/bard biclass would be nearly utterly useless, for example. This would be a GREAT deal of help ! Tnx in advance, Ciania. |

If you don't know a spell as a bard it doesn't hurt your wizard. If you know ghost sound as a wizard but didn't pick it as a bard than you can prepare it in a wizard slot and cast it from there but can't cast it spontaneously using your bard casting. |

Well, tnx a lot. That's too bad, kinda disappointing. I was hoping i could acces the "shared spells" on wizard spell list as bard. I knew backway would be impossible since wizards NEED to have it written on the spell book, but i had that tought considering bards only need to know the spell (and as a wizard, you kinda "know" em). O well, thanks again for making it clear! |

If you know Ghost Sound as a Wizard but not a Bard, you may ONLY cast that spell as a Wizard because you do not know the spell as a Bard. The spell is NOT on the Bard's "Spells Known" list. Yes, you must learn (add to spells known) the spell in both Wizard and Bard to be able to cast the spell from both classes. No it does not suffice. This is crystal clear in the PHB, you may need to read that before you play. Also knowning a spell is a precise thing. Read the PHB glossary. |
