| Heavy Metal Elf02-15-06, 11:51 PM | Hey everyone, just a quick question to you all. I know the various Bigby's Hand spells are force effects and therefore can interact with incorporeal creatures (such as a ghost) as though the creature is material. I'm just a bit unclear on what happens when a Bigby's Grasping Hand grapples a ghost or other incorporeal creature. Is it as normal? Could anoyone give a quick rundown? Thanks in advance for any help! |
| smrtgmp02-16-06, 12:15 AM | I would say the fact that its a force effect would override the standard immunity to grapples enjoyed by incorporeal creatures. However, thats just my ruling, and far from official. |
| Squaba02-16-06, 02:00 AM | For all purposes a Force effect treats a creature as if it were corporeal, interacting with it on both the ethereal plane and the material one. The Hand would grapple normally and you’d have a very surprised ghost. |
| Heavy Metal Elf02-16-06, 03:03 AM | -I'm heading to my game on Friday-- we're in the City of the Spider Queen (updated to 3.5- sort of) in we've been running into a lot of incorps recently and I expect to see a lot more of them as we travel through the last part of the module. You guys confirmed what I hoped (unless someone else can cite something definitive). Another quick question, if I may? Does Mordenkainen's Sword receive iterative attacks for high attack bonus, or just one with the listed bonus? F'r instance, my wizard has +9 int mod, and CL 16 for a bonus of 25 (+3 an additional 3 as per the spell). Would my Sword get one attack at +28, or +28/+23/+18/+13? |
| Radijs02-16-06, 04:51 AM | The thing that warrants iterative attacks is a high Base Attack Bonus. And the spell doesn't say anywhere that there are iterative attacks so I don't think there will be. |

Your sword would get one attack at +28 attack bonus. Confirming what Radijs stated in his post. The spell gives the sword an attack bonus, not BAB, which doesn't affect iterative attacks. From the 3.5 SRD description of Mage's Sword (a/k/a Mordenkainen's Sword): Its attack bonus is equal to your caster level + your Int bonus or your Cha bonus (for wizards or sorcerers, respectively) with an additional +3 enhancement bonus. |
