bind elemental (MoE) on gargantuan+ elementals? [Archive] - Wizards Community

In Magic of Eberron, rules are provided for incorporating bound elementals into items to reduce the base GP cost for item creation through the bind elemental feat (ECS). At a rate of a 5% discount per size above medium, this could theoretically yield a maximum 20% discount if a colossal elemental is bound in an item during the creation process.

When combined with other item creation feats such as extraordinary artisan (ECS) (-25% base gp) and magical artisan (OA) (-25% base gp and xp to any item made with the bind elemental item creation feat), this could reduce the price in gp to create a magical item down to 15% its normal market value!

The only problem with this is how to bind an elemental of a size greater than huge. To bind an elemental to an item, a variation of the planar binding spell is required. However, greater planar binding only allows you to bind an elemental of up to 18 HD or less. This allows you to bind a huge elemental (minimum 16 HD), but it leaves out larger elementals such as tempests (MM2, gargantuan, 24 HD) or primal elementals (ELH, colossal, 96 HD, low CHA score would make CHA check to bind it easy though binding an epic elemental would seem far-fetched).

Is there a spell or something that can be used to bind an elemental of greater than 18 HD? Or are there any gargantuan or colossal elementals with no more than 18 HD?

Best guess would be making an Epic spell to do such a thing.
Given the inherent advantage of having a 15% of base price Magical item, I mean.

until you make it restrictive so that only a lawful good person can use it then you are getting paid just to make the item.

just a side note though I count the cost of 25+25+20 to be 70% cost reduction.

the 15% is relative to the market price, not the cost to normally create it.

I suppose it would require an epic spell to bind a collosal elemental then. Still, a huge elemental will yield a total 20% market price value for crafting an item. That's still not too bad at all considering that it can be done with a 15th level party (at which point you'll have access to greater planar binding). Or even better, with an artificer in the group, the CL required to make items is -2 (item creation ability). So a 13th level artificer could craft a staff that casts greater planar binding. This staff could be given to another spellcaster in the party with a high UMD modifier, then through cooperation between the artificer (with bind elemental feat) and the other spellcaster (with the greater planar binding staff), a 13th level party can bind a huge elemental into an item during magic item creation.

market price is base off of creation price, just confusing the way you are saying it.
its a good add and just make your items alignment restricted and you cut off another 30%

is there a feat that cuts off item creation costs by restricting the alignment?

Nevermind, I just saw this on the the Behind the Curtain: Magic Item Gold Piece Values sidebar in the DMG.
