| Enaloindir06-09-06, 03:51 PM | Hello all, I was wondering if you could give me some clarification on the interaction between bite of the werebear (Spell Compendium) and the druid's wild shape. What are the effects when the druid casts this spell before/after wild shaping? If it all stacks, the druid's melee capabilities just went through the roof even further... Thanks, Enaloindir |
| Thomas_Covenant06-09-06, 04:13 PM | No, it's about as high-powered as it looks. The strength and natural armor alone are frightening. The only thing worse wouldbe if they gave druids a way to boost their wisdom above any other spellcaster, now that.... Oh, Owl's Insight, my bad. :mymy: |
| Enaloindir06-09-06, 04:20 PM | Another question: If the druid is wildshaped into dire bear form, does he use the attack routine described in bite of the werebear or the regular dire bear's attack routine? I would say the one described in the spell, as that replaces the normal routine, but I'm not 100% sure. Thanks, Enaloindir |
| tarkin06-09-06, 05:30 PM | Lets say you are an actual were-bear. If you wildshape into a snake, could you use your wearbear claws? No. Wildshape acts as an Alternate form, so it causes you to lose all of the following (taken from the SRD): The creature loses the natural weapons, natural armor, and movement modes of its original form, as well as any extraordinary special attacks of its original form not derived from class levels (such as the barbarian’s rage class feature). So you don't use the spell bite/claws if you wildshaped after you cast the spell. That leaves the following: You retain the rest stat bonuses, blind-fight feat, power attack feat. (You never actually gained the multi-attack feat it was a special ability of the claws/bite) Now if you cast the spell THEN wildshaped (using Natural Spell), you would get to keep the claw/bite stuff from the spell. |
| NineInchNall06-10-06, 03:30 AM | Now if you cast the spell THEN wildshaped (using Natural Spell), you would get to keep the claw/bite stuff from the spell. Strike that; reverse it. ;) I disagree on the natural armor portion, though, as that is a function of the spell, which is providing a bonus to natural armor. So the natural armor of whatever form you wild shaped into would be increased by that amount. You do lose the natural armor of the original form, just not the bonus provided by the spell. |
| Thomas_Covenant06-10-06, 03:07 PM | I don't think Tarkin meant to imply you lost the enhancement bonus to natural armor provided by the spell, just the "base" natural armor. Similar in concept to losing your current strength, but keeping your enhancement bonus to strength when wild shaping/ alternate form. |
