| nhembree10-21-06, 05:01 AM | Alright, I was flipping though the spell compendium and reading up on Black Blade of Disaster, I noticed in the top description that it says there is no saving throw, but in the description of the spell it says if you make your save you only take 5d6 damage. I spent quite a bit of time looking for an eratta on it, but can't find anything. Is one of these descriptions a typo? or did I miss something when I was reading it. |
| CaoSlayer10-21-06, 05:22 AM | if it is like the faerun incarnation then it says that on a critical hit the blade casts desintegrate on the target as the spell, so it would have a fort save like the spell and if fails it still deals 5d6 damage. |
| nhembree10-23-06, 12:25 PM | Basically it says up at the top there is no save. in the description it says it summons a sword with a blade similar to a shere of annihalation(sp?). it does 2d6 damage per level (max 40d6). Then goes on to say to take 5d6 damage if you make yer save. So, I dunno, I'm thinking the no save was a typo, and now I'm looking at Sphere of Ulimate Destruction. |
| Witch10-23-06, 01:20 PM | I'm guessing it means that there's no save when casting it, but you get to save when you're struck. |
| Optimator10-23-06, 01:51 PM | I'm guessing it means that there's no save when casting it, but you get to save when you're struck. That's probably it. |
| tarkin10-23-06, 05:14 PM | That looks like a mistake to me. Lots of spells have no save when you cast, but a save later on. Look at Chill Touch. It expressely lists the save, it does not hide it like the Black Blade |
| Witch10-23-06, 06:35 PM | Oh, it's definitely a mistake, but this is likely the reason they made it. |
| Ogre4Hire10-24-06, 12:23 AM | BBoD is supposed to have a Fortitude Partial save. It's essentially a Disintigrate that goes off every round. |
| MarrowMage10-24-06, 11:15 AM | It says in the description: Anything hit by the blade is disintegrated if it fails a fortitude save, taking 2d6 points of damage per caster level (maximum 40d6), or 5d6 points of damage if the saving throw is successful. |
| Hallavast10-24-06, 03:00 PM | So... would the save be calculated as a 9th level spell or a 6th level spell? |
| yarethon10-24-06, 03:05 PM | as a 9th level spell |
| smrtgmp10-24-06, 07:55 PM | I would ignore black blade of disaster in favor of sphere of unlimate distruction. They're both 9th level and they both disintegrate, but the sphere is a far more versitile delivery system. |
| nhembree10-26-06, 04:43 PM | Ignoring BBoD and going with SoUD sounds like a good idea to me. Thanks. |
| Avanter10-26-06, 09:21 PM | I had a Sorc with SoUD, and his Marshall cohort giving him move actions to move the sphere again in a round. Good Stuff. |
