If you cast Evard's Tentacles are the people in the area capable of casting spells before the grapple check? Say for example a Dimensional Doorway spell?

According to my reading the tentacles make a grapple check against everyone within their area when the spell is completed, and again on the caster's following initiatives. The spell also gets to make an immediate grapple check against a creature whenever it enters the area.

So... assuming you make your initial grapple check on the caster's initiative you should be able to cast and move at half speed without a challenge until the caster's next initiative (just dont leave the area and reenter).

My understanding of the spell is that once it is cast anyone within the area of effect must make an immediate opposed grapple check vs. the tentacles. If they succeed on the check then they could cast/move, but if they fail then they are held fast and subsequent rounds could cause damage with another successful grapple check by the tentacles.

Theoretically, if you have a spell with no somatic or material components, there is nothing stopping you from casting even if you fail your save, provided you make a DC 20 Concentration check.

As far as I know, that's correct. You can't cast spells with a somatic component without making some kind of epic level concentration check IIRC. I think it's 50+spell level.

But you can cast spells that have only a verbal component with relative ease. I'm not sure if it's a dc20 concentration check, or dc 20+spell level, though.

Also, just wondering, I know you can't cast spells with somatic components in a grapple except for that epic level check, but what about material components? Do you need to succeed on a grapple check to "draw" the components? Say, for example, you have a spell with V,S,M components and then you still spell it. Then it's only V,M can you cast that in a grapple? If so, what are the rules for it? Just a grapple to draw the components and then a concentration for the verbal portion?

For the material the answer is no, no check required, it is on the PHB. Taking out the material component while in grapple simply require a full round action without any check
It is written in the "grapple rules" under the "what can be done during grapple" part. I do not give the page because it is Italian manual and I think the page aren't the same of the original english version
