So if a wielder of a Rod of Absorbtion is attacked by a Black Blade of Disaster, will it absorb it? Why or why not?

This rod acts as a magnet, drawing spells or spell-like abilities into itself. The magic absorbed must be a single-target spell or a ray directed at either the character possessing the rod or her gear.

Effect: sword-shaped planar rift

Since BBoD is not a targeted spell or a ray spell, the rod would not affect it.
