I wanted to make a 1st level spell that scaled with the power of the caster while still retaining balance. I am not sure if something like this has already been made, but here is what I came up with.

Blade of the Arcane

School: Transmutation

Level: Sorc/Wiz 1

Components: V, S, AF

Casting Time: 1 Standard Action

Range: (25’ + 5’ per 2 levels)

Target or Effects or Area: One creature

Duration: 1 round + 1 round per level (d)

Saving Throw: None

Spell Resistance: Yes

By means of this spell the caster is able to transform his dagger into a magical blade that floats in the air. The blade can move as fas and as far as the caster could. The blade can be used to attack using the casters BAB. The casters relevant stat bonus (Int for wiz / Cha for sorc) is added to the attack roll. The blade does damage as listed below.

Level 1-3: 1d4+1 (or +1 to AC)
Level 4-6: 1d4+2
Level 7-9: 1d6+3 (or +2 to AC)
Level 10-12: 1d6+4
Level 13+: 1d8+5 (or +3 to AC)

The blade will continue its last command attacking or moving until it reaches maximum range or until the creator commands it to do something different. The blade will only get the casters stat bonus (Int for wiz / Cha for sorc) added to the attack roll if they concentrate on the attack (Forgoing any other actions except moving or defending), otherwise it will continue to attack normally. The blade never gains a flanking bonus, nor can it be used to sneak attack.

Alternately the blade can be used to defend the caster requiring no concentration to do this. The blade will give the caster a shield bonus to his AC while defending. The weapon cannot perform both actions in one round. It can either move and attack or shield the caster.

The blade is considered magical for means of what it can hit (The exact plusses are listed next to the damage).

The blade can be attacked. Due to its enchantment, it has the same hardness as a longsword and twice the HP as the caster has levels. If the blade is destroyed, the arcane focus is shattered as well.

Arcane focus: A silvered masterwork dagger

I've never liked spells that use the caster's BAB. Aside from that personal opinion, however, it looks great.

Another in a line of magical weapon spells...But, I like it.

However, given the fact that the blade stays around, and can be commanded, and can defend teh caster, make me think it would work better as a Conjuration spell.
But then, the line between Conjuration and Evocation seems a little fuzzy to me smetimes.

That is higher than 1st level. Compare with spiritual Weapon. Like that one, this is a solid 2nd level Spell.

Lose the Force aspect, make damage 1d4 + 1/3 levels and you got yourself a first level spell.

P.S. You generally can not sunder things made of Force.

I reworded the spell and decreased the damage somewhat. I did not drop it to 1d4 across the board because I want the damage to scale with the level of the caster. At maximum level it still doesnt do as much damage as Magic missile, and it doesnt auto hit. So let me know what you think.
