| Ryll04-17-06, 08:36 PM | This came up in our game last weekend. I thought Greater Blink and Displacement miss chances stacked, others said they read somewhere that these did not stack. Since they are different in that one has you on a different plane, and one makes you look like you are standing elsewhere, I thought they were stackable defenses. Can someone point me to where it is written what miss chances do, and do not stack, so that I may read this as well? Thanks, |

Miss chances from different sources are checked separately, though the rules never state this explicitly. 20% of the miss chance from blink is based on concealment. Another 20% is based on being ethereal. How this adds up to a 50% miss chance, I'll never know. Two 20% miss chances is mathematically equivalent to a 36% miss chance. If each were 30%, the combination would be equivalent to 51% miss chance (close enough to 50% to work). I wouldn't recommend stacking blink with displacement. However if you said that the 20% ethereal miss chance from blink stacks with the 50% concealment miss chance from displacement, you would have a total miss chance of 60% (the equivalent of a 20% miss chance and a 50% miss chance). |

| Moribund04-18-06, 02:36 AM | Rolling twice, once at 20% and once at 50% is mathematically equivalent to rolling once at 60%. I prefer to limit my percentage dice rolls when I can. |
| Nom04-18-06, 04:12 AM | True. But on the fly it's often easier to just roll once at 20% and once at 50% than go: "20% is 1 - 80%; 50% is 1 - 50%; 0.8 * 0.5 = 0.4; 1 - 0.4 = 0.6 = 60%. OK, roll at 60%". |
