| Trevhippy04-11-07, 04:46 PM | Seems like a fairly straight-forward spell at first...If the target fails a fort save, creepy-ass red vines burst from their body and make themself a nuisance doing your caster level in damage each round. The confusion comes for the fact that the spell says that while it's in effect, the "subject is immobilized (unable to move from its current location)." But Immobile isn't a condition listed in the SRD20, or in the DMG, so I'm not sure what that means in game terms exactly. Can they do anything except move, including making unhindered full-attacks and casting without forced concentration checks (except for the damage)? That seems pretty week for a level 5 spell considering you get baleful polymorph at the same time. When someone is pinned they are immobile and can do nothing but try to escape, is this the same thing? Thanks in advance! --Trev |

"Unable to move from it's current location" means it can't leave the square it is in, but it is otherwise free to act. This is supported by the flavor text (the creature is tethered to the ground), and by the fact that the creature is also entangled. If they were effectively paralyzed, it wouldn't make any sense to have them entangled too. On the other hand, entangled creatures are often immobilized as well, in exactly this same sense. I agree, it's kind of a weak spell for it's level. If the Strength DC to escape were higher, it would be better. It's pretty effective against casters though, since they are likely to have both a low strength and a bad fort save. |
