Bloodstar
Prequisites: Craft Magic arms and Armor, vampiric touch, false life, Enevration. Caster level 9th
Market Price:98,308 gp
The bloodstar is a +2 morningstar. Whenever the bloodstar deals peircing damage to a living creature, it absorbs blood and life force from the wound, gaining a number of charges equal to 1/2 the damage dealt. It releases this life energy upon it's weilder's command. It can either deliver it with a ranged touch attack (80ft range) as a bolt of energy, it can discharge it in a melee strike in addition to normal hit damage, or it can imbue it with a touch attack (no weapon damage). The bloodstar can release it as positive life force (crackly red bolt), or negative life force (black bolt). The positive energy heals 1d6 hp per three charges spent on it (minimum of 3), and does an equal amount of damage to undead. The negative energy deals 1d6 damage per three charges (minimum 3) and heals an equal amount to undead.

Midnight Bloodstar, Artifact: A rare variation of the bloodstar, this is a +3 ghost touch intelligent bloodstar with Int5,Wis12,Cha17, Ego11 and alignment of neutral evil. It is generally compliant so long as it's weilder uses it frequently to ensure it can drink blood and makes sure it has at least 7 charges. If it feels lacking for opportunity to feed it will deliberately try to get its weilder into fights and even turn on the nearest living thing available until it is sated.
Market Price: Priceless

Fun. Why is it evil? It can suck the blood of good creatures just as well as bad creatures, and heals and harms too. I'd make it CN.

I like the concept, but would remove all references to ranged attacks. Let the morningstar drain in melee and discharge in melee as well. Let it revel in the physical combat.

In any case, very nice weapon. Got a price?

First off, it's a particular Bloodstar. Normal bloodstars are non-aligned, just the legendary midnight bloodstar is an evil thing that cares only about its own wants and values those above the life and safety of others. It lusts for blood to feed upon, harming and killing out of desire rather than need.

Chaotic neutral is "free spirit", not "self-serving psychopath", despite the fact that about 75% of all people play it wrong.

As much sense as that makes, I can't bring myself to give up the image of somebody swinging a bloodstar around their head and then thrusting it in the direction of somebody releasing a crimson lightning bolt.
In any case, very nice weapon. Got a price? No, I was hoping one of you could help me come up with one, as indicated by the question mark after "market price".

You could try posting in the Equipment/Arms/Weapons thread. They've evaluated unusual weapons for me before.

I thought about that. With the new organization I'm just really not sure where to post magic weapons.

This is the right place for a magic weapon. So here goes a pricing:
+2 Morningstar: 8,000gp
"throwing" = +1 enhancement raises this to 18,000gp

enervation: 4 x 7 x 2000 = 56,000gp
vampiric touch: 3 x 5 x 2000 = 30,000gp
false life: 2 x 3 x 2000 = 12,000gp.

Initial total: 116,000 gp.

I'm tempted to leave it there. However, upon re-examining the description of the weapon, it is not really draining levels or causing any extra damage in its "charging" phase. So the pricing for vampiric touch and enervation are not really present.

So... revisit:
Bloodstar
+2 base weapon
"throwing" variant": +1
positive energy 1d6: +2 (because it can build)
negative energy 1d6: +2 (again because it can build)
Total: +7 equivalent weapon.

Sweet item :ayyyy!: I like the flavor. Seeker's price suggestion seems appropriate, IMO. About time. ;)
