Blunted Blades

Transmutation
Level: Druid 5?
Components: V, S, DF
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range Close: Close (25 feet + 5 feet/2 levels)
Area: 40 foot radius spread
Duration: 1 minute/level
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell transforms the weapons and natural attacks of all subjects within the area of effect who fail their saving throw. Piercing and Slashing weapons and natural attacks are changed into Bludgeoning weapons for the duration of the spell. Furthermore, their threat range and critical multiplier are changed to (20/x2).

Seems pretty weak for a 5th level spell. I think 3rd would be as high as I would go.

I know it has the possibility of reducing threat range/multiplier, but its not as if bludgeoning is a weak form of damage or anything. Its certainly better than piercing.

It also seems like something that should be on more than just the druid spell list.

Maybe you could also reduce the damage as though the weapons were one size category smaller. For a 5th level spell it does seem a little underwhelming.

How about 4th? I'm comparing it to Keen Edge, which improves the threat range of a single weapon, and this spell reduces the threat range of multiple weapons. Also, I plan on using it where a lot of critters have DR 10/slashing and the PCs only weapons (that I know of) are slashing or piercing.

Would it be appropriate for Bards? Sorcerer/Wizards? Rangers?

Thanks for all the feedback.

I think it would be fine for bard and sor/wiz lists.

I suppose I could see casting it as a 4th level spell. I realise it will be quite powerful in the situation for which you have designed it, but that tends to be the nature of situational spells.

It wont have much effect on monsters that rely on natural weapons, as they already have a 20/x2 crit range/multiplier.

If you're worried about balance compared to keen edge, keep in mind that KE has a duration of 10 min/level. That has a good chance of lasting multiple enounters, which is unlikely for your spell.

How about Bard 3, Druid 3, Sorcerer/Wizard 4?

that sounds fair. I would allow that in my game.
