Back in 2e, there used to be a spell called bone blight.

It would cause bones to be more susceptible to bludgeoning attacks. Does anyone know if this was ever converted to 3.5e.

I havent seen an updated version. I do have the necromancer's handbook, so I could make a conversion if you want. Is that the same spell that required the target to make 5 saves, one keyed to each major extremity (arms, legs, and neck) where a failed save yielded a break? I think that one was called bone shiver, but I cant remember.

I think it was in the Necromancer's Guide and also in the Wizard's Spell compendium. I will check over the weekend.

I do have the Conversion Manual that I downloaded from the WotC website, but I don't think they updated that conversion manual to be 3.5 compliant.

Here is the (potentially) converted Bone Blight and Bone Growth spells from the Wizard's Compendium Vol I.

I know that spells like Boneblast deal damage to Constitution instead of hit points, but I couldn't see how that could be worked into the additional damage dealt by bludgeoning weapons, unless the end of the first day and mid-term caused Con damage instead of hit point reduction.

Any suggestions would be helpful, I am also going to send this to Skip Williams since I used his 3e Conversion Manual to do this.

Bone Blight

Necromancy [Evil]
Level: Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: 1 living creature
Duration: Instantaneous + special
Saving Throw: Fortitude negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

Bone blight is an evil, deadly cure that slowly erodes the healthy bones of any chosen creature within range. If a Fortitude save is failed, all bones in the creature slowly begin to dissolve, eventually reducing it to a quivering mound of formless flesh. It has not effect on undead.

Except for experiencing a strange “tingling sensation” at the time of casting, the victim is not immediately aware of the spell’s effect (making it more insidious).

In the short term (from the moment of casting to the first full day), the bones of the victim become more brittle, greatly increasing susceptibility to bludgeoning-type attacks or falling damage. The victim sustains double damage from these; by the end of the first day, current hit points are reduced by 20%.

In the mid-term (lasting 1d6+1 days from the time of casting), the victim is subject to frequent, painful fractures. Piercing and slashing weapons inflict double damage, while bludgeoning-type attacks inflict quadruple damage. By the end of this period, the victim’s hit points are reduced by 60%.

In the terminal stage, which begins the day the 3rd to 8th day depending on how long the mid-term stage lasts, the victim’s bones finally dissolve, collapsing the spine and skull, bringing a slow and painful death.

This spell prevents natural healing. Magical healing slows, but cannot stop the victim from reaching the terminal stage. Every 10 points of magical healing prolongs the mid-term stage for one full day, to the maximum limit of the mid-term (1d6+1 days) plus one day per point of Constitution of the victim.

Bone blight is countered by bone growth. The bone dissolution can also be halted by the successful casting of the following spells, remove disease followed by a remove curse, remove disease followed by a dispel magic, remove disease followed by a heal, limited wish, miracle, or wish.

Material Component: A drop of sour milk.

Bone Growth

Conjuration [Healing]
Level: Sor/Wiz 5
Components: V, S, M
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target: 1 living creature
Duration: Instantaneous + special
Saving Throw: Fortitude negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

Bone growth fuses normal fractures: Mild compression fractures heal in a day, while serious fractures (such as a broken leg or back) might take 1d4 days to heal (assuming complete bed rest for the patient: otherwise healing time is doubled). This spell does not heal soft tissue damage, including cuts and sprains. It has no effect on undead.

Bone growth is countered by bone blight. The effects of bone blight are immediately halted and the damage caused by bone blight is slowly reversed over a period of 1d6 days.

Material Component: A drop of milk.

As a DM, I always thought it was a great devious spell to use against the PCs.
