Okay, I recently made a wizard at lvl 5. Right now im busy bringing him up to lvl 6 after a few sessions of play.

I have an int score of 18 (with the help of some items), which means i have bonus spells of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th level.

Im wondering if I am able to use that 4th level spell slot to actually cast a 4th level spell even though i dont get any 4th level spell slots as a wizard until level 7. (Once i write it into my spellbook of course).

And, if i can, does that qualify me for a prestige class that requires me to be able to cast 4th level spells?

Thanks in advance :)!

No. and Yes, but the first answer is No so this is irrelevant.

No, you must wait till you are a 7th level Wizard to gain access to that 4th level bonus spell.

Imagine the chaos if my first level Wizard with an INT of 16 could use that
3rd level bonus spell. :P

You can still try to cast 4th level Wizard spells through scrolls or other magic devices but it will not help you to enter a prestige class.

Hope it Helps!

Thanks. What about with heighten spell? Would i be able to bump say my 3rd level spell up and put it in that slot and qualify for taking a prestige class that i needed to be able to cast 4th level spells for?

No, you cannot use bonus spell slots from a high stat for *any* purpose until you have at least 0 spell slots of that level based on your class level. (Note that 0 and - are two different things. A level 5 wizard has - 4th level spells, not 0)
