Ok i had my players fighting a dragon that had amazing grapple capabilities.
however, the sorcerer of the group dealt like 200 damage with an otilukes freezing sphere and I wondered if that woudn't help the poor grappled bard escape

any ideas?

I mean, it's reasonable

he does not know it...

I mean, maybe a bonus on his grapple for the damage the grappling creature is taking?

based on.....?

By the RAW that doesn't do anything except deal damage to the dragon. (Or possibly the Bard, did you check the random chance to hit another target when firing a ranged attack into a grapple?)

And Dimension door is a simple enough spell for the bard to have.

You could rule that as the dragon convulses in pain from the massive damage taken, his grip on the bard loosens. Maybe just allow the bard to escape?

I just thought about the regular bonus
like a +4 aid bonus for the damage, something like that

Why not just your usually +/- 2 circumstance bonus.
