Bonus SPD on a Wizard [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-14-06, 09:57 PM Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I can't find an answer to my question anywhere else, nor a place that seems more appropriate.

So, if I have bonus Spells per Day on a Wizard, can I use the 2 spells I automatically learn per level to learn a spell with rank higher than I normally know.

Example:
A Wizard with Intelligence of 16 (+3 modifier) reaches 2nd level. This means that the wizard is entitled to two new spells of any rank that the wizard can cast. Can the wizard choose to learn Waterbreathing (3rd level), even though a Wizard cannot normally cast 3rd level spells until 5th level?
