Bonus stackability [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-21-07, 05:22 PM Twofold question concerning the sources of bonus'.

1.) Say Bob the Fighter has belt of giant strength +2 and Joe the cleric casts bulls strength on him. Is the net increase to Bob's str score +2 or +4? (a.k.a do magic items and spells stack even if the bonus is the same type?)

2.) If the answer to the above question was +4, then what about if say he is then endowed with a strength of stonespell (+8 enhancement to str), is the net increase +12? (a.k.a do two different spells that grant the same type of bonus stack?)

P.S. I know that this must have been asking a quadbillion times already, sorry guess i need more ranks in use magic device to operate the search engine ;)

This is one of the rules under "Basics" in the SRD. Two bonuses stack if They have different types, or
They are two Dodge bonuses to AC, or
They are two Circumstance bonuses that arise from different circumstances, or
Neither have a type, and the bonuses arise from different sources (which means "sources with different names").The Bull's Str only gives a net +2 increase, and the Strength of Stone would give +4 over the Bull's Str.
